The battle of the forts The battle of the big markets The battle of the teams everyone loves to hate.
29 seasons the Mooseheads has been in the league, and they finally get to meet up with their rivals from Quebec city in the finals. The Quebec/Beauport franchise has been around since 90-91 and have 0 Q championships. Halifax have been around since 94-95 and have one Q title. So for one of this storied franchises it will be a rare championship.
For Quebec to win, they can't underestimate Halifax. It would be easy to smoke Gatineau and then see the underdog Mooseheads roll into town and let up a bit. They have to play with the same attention to detail and intensity that they did when they beat the Olympiques. They also have to do a better job than Sherbrooke did of keeping Halifax in front of them. The Moose burned the Phoenix on breakaways, odd-man rushes and missed assignments. Patrick Roy did a good job stengthening his defense with Langlois and Darcy... two players with defined roles that can excel against good competition. They need to limit their mistakes and put Halifax in a position to make their own.
Halifax has to maintain their hunger. They can't be satisfied with a big win against Sherbrooke. They have an opportunity here and they can't play like they're just "happy to be here". They will be the underdogs in this series and it is up to them to elevate their game one notch higher.
My prediction is the Remparts in 7. I think Halifax will make a series of it but at some point, their younger defense will start to break down and give the Remparts more chances than they should. This has been a great playoff run and I hope the Moose can make it a competitive final and continue to prove that their division has no bearing on their talent.
Which Rousseau will take home playoff MVP? Which former Foreur (Robidas or Doucet) will right the wrong of 2021? Which fort will hold? It should be a great finals.
Go Moose!!!!

Hopefully Quebec could get enough rest so Nico Savoie and Charle Truchon can start the series. They're the first pairing so they will need them against the Moose. It's even more upsetting for Truchon who got injured by Samuel Savoie out of frustration with the outcome when there were 25 seconds left to the series... Darcy is also injured so right now they have 3 healthy defensemen. Robidas and Agostino are injured but they played through it.
Quebec has been good on faceoffs this season, the best team of the QMJHL, but the best faceoff man is Lawrence. They will have to find a way to limit his wins. He was a huge positive for Halifax in the game last night because he was able to slow down the pressure of Sherbrooke by winning faceoffs in the defensive zone.
I think one of the Rousseau will win playoffs MVP. The winner might depend on the outcome.
Quebec has a more mature lineup, but so did Sherbrooke!

I think Halifax will make a series of it but at some point, their younger defense will start to break down and give the Remparts more chances than they should. I don't disagree with your overall sentiment, but I feel like Furlong and Phillips in particular have really elevated their games this playoffs. The other shoe might still drop, yes... but those two are playing beyond their years right now. I also think the coaching staff has made some very important adjustments to the defensive structure that has taken a lot of pressure off each defenseman as an individual. There is noticeably a lot more close puck support down low from F1/F2, and the majority of zone exits are either going up the boards or getting flipped out high. That's a stark contrast to the regular season where our D were carrying and exiting through the middle with regularity - a lot less margin for error in terms of decision making playing that way.

Do the Mooseheads ever organize a fan bus or anything for the finals? Would love the opportunity to go to QC this weekend although I think I read the tickets are already sold out.

Phillips has been extremely good. He's been put in a position that not a lot of 16 year old defensemen get put into, and he has thrived. He will be excellent for Halifax in the years to come, or for whoever he plays with down the road. I agree the Moose in general have bought into a defensive system. They have very active sticks, and are blocking a lot of shots. I feel like at some point that has to take its toll, and for Halifax to be successful in this series they have to play a bit more in Quebec's end of the ice. The sustainability of getting a goal or a couple goals early and relying on your goaltender to stand on his head is questionable.

There is always a block of ~200 tickets available for visiting fans and family for playoff games. I think you can get them through the Mooseheads office. So even if there's no bus, you could still get tickets. Welcome to the forums.

I came here expecting to read a post about being excited to see this playoff and it should be good. You started that way but then you basically went into Halifax’s obituary. You just can’t have nice things can you? Halifax has done nothing but prove they belong and are where they are supposed to be. I’ll admit after game one of Sherbrooke I had doubt but that was a situation where I was there and had recency bias. After giving it a day and thinking about what happened well I came here and said over and over take away Melanson’s first period and maybe add Dumais scoring on the open net he hit the post on game one is a different story. Man everybody should get behind this team and believe in them by now. What do they have to do for that to happen? On the other hand as I said before when you did jump to the right side if they start losing you better jump back to the doom and gloom. I’m superstitious like that. Now let’s actually talk about this series. First fact Halifax has yet to lose on the road in the playoffs. I feel that will continue until game 5. Next Halifax has been with out one of their top defenders in Whynot I wonder if he might get to play. It does look like Phillips could use a little less minutes. I think Whynot as the 7th guy would be a huge thing just to give players an extra long sit here and there. Then we have Dumais missing 14 periods of the 2nd round. He should be back and I think he could be effective in this series. With Sherbrooke I did say it might be a blessing and I actually meant that. They were big and strong and took up space. Quebec and Halifax are more comparable in size. The problem here is speed will still be a factor but I think he could breakthrough here. I guess this still falls under the superstition but it’s also a fact. This is Halifax’s 5 time in the League final. The one thing that always happened when Halifax made it to the league final was the Presidents Cup was handed out in the Metro Centre/ Scotiabank Centre. So in saying that either game 4 or game 6 we’ll have a winner. So if you want to see them give it out make sure you have tickets to either one of those games.

If they lose one in this series, will it have a snowball effect like it did with the Phoenix? There are avenues for success for Halifax. I should do a better job articulating that in my write-ups.

You actually set me up perfectly for this response. Halifax actually played Quebec 24 games ago(for Quebec that is). Do you know what happened then? They started a 4 game losing streak for Quebec. Also once again though we can’t have nice things still Halifax beat them both games this year and both times they Quebec didn’t have to deal with L’Heureux. He’s going to cause fits. I voted Halifax in 6. I also voted that last series. I’ve been say this all year this team can win it all.
