Any 2008, 2007, or 2006 player can be drafted as long as they are on the final eligibility list

can a 2007 player be drafted this year if they didn't play in the league last year I believe so , his name escapes me but Bathurst took a guy 2nd overall in the Q Draft who was 17 . He actually went on to have a pretty good NHL Career with Winnipeg , Montreal and Washington . Mattheiu Perreault

He actually went on to have a pretty good NHL Career with Winnipeg , Montreal and Washington . It would depend on whether the player was drafted last year, and not whether they played in the league. It was more common to see a 17 year old get drafted higher back in Perreault’s era as the 16 year olds could only be picked in the first five rounds - so you would see some guys blossom at 16 and get drafted the second time around. Now that teams can draft the 16 year olds in all 14 rounds, it is rare that a guy comes completely out of nowhere the second year to be a high pick … but you see some get picked in the later rounds.

Wasn't Jordan Spence picked only at 17?

Yes Spence was undrafted after his 15 y/o season and then was a first round pick the following season.

They also had a period where it went from first 5 to first 8 for first year guys.

I hear that your team has been very well represented at some Lac St-Louis games over the past week or two (I think you're an Eagles' fan). The Lions have a lot of very top prospects - Rozzi - Yared - Santini, etc. You guys have a ton of top picks, and despite the claims to the contrary, I think this is a really strong 1st round - and a deep draft overall - the deepest I've seen in my four years. Yes I am an Eagles Fan ......but would you expect them to make the Pick ? Given where they are in the Cycle ? I have heard a lot of people that think they will trade the pick to a Team going for it this year for an Impact 18 or a Stud 19 year old ?

That pick could really be your biggest asset to land an impact player. As good as a top 5 draft pick could be, he won't have the impact of a 18-19-20 yo you could get for the pick. Drummondville got Komarov and Gendron for that kind of pick. Victoriaville got Henneberry.

pretty sure Alexandre Lallier is another example here. Went undrafted in his first year of eligibility and then got drafted by the Titan in the 2nd round in his 2nd year.

Alexandre Goulet was a 1st round pick in his 2nd year of eligibility (19th overall by Charlottetown in 2013).
