Anybody else hearing they might cut the draft back from 14 to 12 rounds? That would make sense if they keep the US draft.

I also know that some scouts have one or both of those players outside their top five. Guessing you mean mean local as the Maritimes. Defenceman Jacob Gouchie of the Moncton Flyers is top ten on my list, but I don't think the Eagles would draft him top five rather than trading down. Gouchie's stock seems to have been climbing all season. The broadcasters all seem to pronounce his name as Goo-chee, but all of the Gouchies I know pronounce it Gow-chee. It's going to be interesting to see what the Eagles do if they win the lottery - and even more interesting to read the accompanying discussion on here. Tynan Lawrence now has a verbal commitment to play for Sioux Falls in the USHL next season and North Dakota in the NCAA once eligible. I think Moncton and Halifax are the only teams with a shot to get him to report but he’s not a true NCAA bluff. His plan A is the NCAA.

No Aiden O'Donnell on the list. I heard he had a pathway to declare for the OHL draft, and this would support that.

He signed with Muskegon and hasn't announced any NCAA commitment yet..

Interesting.... I would think for residence eligibility he would need to be living in Ontario now with guardians... not playing in Dartmouth with Steele Subuaru. But does he have a father who played in the OHL? If that is the case, then there is the pathway for him to declare for the OHL draft. It is through that rule that Lane and Landon Sim, sons for Nova Scotia ex-NHL player Jonathan Sim, were allowed to be drafted in the OHL draft. There is a Chris O'Donnell from Halifax, born in 79 and played with Dalhousie in 2000-01. His junior career was mostly with the Halifax Oland Exports Jr. A team, but he did play 5 games in the OHL with Oshawa and Ottawa in 97-98... he was a Moncton Wildcat in 96-97. This is a bit of a deep dive here, but if this were Aiden's father, then that would be how he ends up as an OHL player rather than a QMJHL player. No Aiden O'Donnell on the list. I heard he had a pathway to declare for the OHL draft, and this would support that.

QMJHL had 5-6 players make the prospect game this year and one recent 50 goal scorer wasn't deemed good enough or projected to be good enough. Sounds like this family's advisor is making a smart decision based on the Q's recent track record of getting players to the next level. Landon Sim hasn't put up terrific numbers in the OHL and was drafted in the 6th round last year.

Especially if his dad only played a handful of games in the OHL.

Especially if his dad only played a handful of games in the OHL. Especially since his dad is from NS, played in the Q first, and played way more games in the Q than the OHL (46 to 5). While this may qualify under the rule and allow him to pick leagues, it certainly seems to be much more of a loophole than what was intended. As a comparison, Sim played 3.5 years in the OHL. I’m not a fan of the rule (I think the kid should have to have a direct connection to the province / territory of the league themselves), but it’s a lot of more justifiable for for the Sims than O’Donnell (assuming he does choose the OHL).
