I am actually really interested in seeing this years actual team playing together for the first time, aside from practices.

Fontaine heating up? Not watching the game but notice the 2 goals, i think he slots in as the third center.

What a freaking pass by Brady Schultz, he’s hitting the 40 assist mark this season. Great shot by Peitzsche too.

Watched the game, first time watching them for the season and a few things stood out:
Halifax got better as the game went along. Islanders looked great at the start but Halifax controlled the puck a lot after that.
This game was a preview of the first few weeks maybe even months of the season. The d core was really good at moving pucks or rushing it, but the forwards struggled at times to make plays happen off the rush. It will come with time. Also Cataford I don’t think played after the halfway point of the game. Hopefully just a precaution thing so he doesn’t get hurt for NHL camp.
The PP is back to basics, point shots with rebounds and the odd bumper pass shot. Very different from last years strategy of going for the pretty setup. That being said I loved their zone entries on the PP this game. They got setup almost every time, last season every single team knew the attack down the ice what they wanted to do.
A few players stood out:
Macphee was excellent and I think the best forward. He was almost perfect on the face offs and brought that energy but showed off his playmaking ability too.
Levesque was also excellent, he was buzzing all over the ice. He really stood out and is a player to watch to have a sneaky good season.
Fontaine and kilfoil took them a while to get going but their confidence got there at the end of the game and they scored some goals which will boost their attitude for sure. You can tell they are both really skilled just have to learn the pace of the level.
Martin was very good much more comfortable and played with a lot of confidence. Phillips and moravec were also very very good, Schultz always had the puck. Wouldn’t surprise me if he led the league in d points this season. Milner in nets was just okay, the game shouldn’t have went to OT as a squeaker went by him but got picked up by the team.
Ponzetto is…interesting. Again a new style of play and new country and everything for him and it usually takes time for new euros to adjust. But I’m hoping he does because he looked almost below average out there against the Islanders.
I don’t post a lot here but I stand by my old posts saying this team will surprise a lot of people. The plan is see how the new players develop and if they aren’t satisfied they will make moves to bring players in. They will regardless but this team will be a top team again this season, they will be playing a different style of game but they have in my mind the best G/D combo in the league.

That is great, I'll take the positive even if this win is against one of the worst team of the league. Great to have the young boys contributing, but the point is that if one of those guys mentioned above is part of the top two lines, we're not built for a Championship. They are barely on average 17 years old. We all know that our team will be in the top 3rd of the league no matter what, the question mark is are we going for it and make trades for older players. I am fine with stand still, but I would not want to waste Dumais and Furlong value if for whatever reason we do not build to go for it. As for the best D/G combo, I would like to believe you, but Victo has way more fire power on D and G. So, before saying we're the best, I would wait and see how it unfolds...or let's prudently say that we have the top 4 D/G combo. Thanks for the summary, some positive after 3 very bad losses and nothing to cheer for.

Thought Milner , Peitzsche , Fontaine we’re the best players tonight , Milner with a lot of key saves , Peitzsche with a great give and go assist with Fontaine , controlled the puck real well down low throughout and a fantastic shot in ot getting open for a heads up play by Shultz . Fontaine looks like he could be a gem of a player in the next few years we have a good group of young talent I think the moose will be competitive for the next few years .

They're overall pretty young, but they have a mix of good veterans and should be a mid-pack squad.

Not to mention Jim Hulton is the king of turning Chicken Shit on paper, into Chicken Salad on the ice. People love counting out the Islanders during down years but they always punch above their weight and remain competitive

With the Mooseheads offense not being as potent this season they really need the D to step up and take on a more offensive role imo.

I was quite surprised to see Wallace on the ice today (Sunday). He got tons of ice time and I thought he looked pretty good - not out of place at all...
