If those 17-18yr olds are elite enough, you can justify accelerating your program. Chicoutimi falls into that category imo. Regardless, they will be a juggernaut the next few seasons. When I look at their roster, I wonder if YJ would prioritize a top pairing defenseman over a top line forward like Cataford. Might actually be more prudent for the Sags to target/pry away Owen Phillips if they are picking up the phone to call Cam - and he fits their age group perfectly. Phillips is the player some Sags fans have been mentioning. He would fit with their age group.

Phillips is the player some Sags fans have been mentioning. He would fit with their age group. I thought he was the best player on the ice last night against Charlottetown. He isn't a star player yet - but he's on the cusp of it. His edgework in tight spaces and confidence to turn with the puck along the boards is unbelievable for a 17YO defenseman. He's been sheltered his entire Q career so far playing behind 3 NHL draftees (Whynot, Furlong, MacKinnon), a WJ player (Moravec) and one of the best offensive blueliners in the league (Schultz). On a lot of other teams in the league, he's playing consistent top 4, if not top pairing minutes. The shackles will be off next year and he'll have his time to shine. I just hope it's still gonna be with us!

They had a bad stretch in December-January but since then they're one of the top teams in the league. I can see Chicoutimi taking a run at Cataford. They'll want to really take a leap next season. They have a lot of good young players, but I think you'll see them move a couple in a deal for an elite veteran scoring forward. Masse, Guite, Huang are untouchable, but other guys could be in play. Plus they have 2 1sts. Halifax would make a good trade partner. You’re forgetting Rimouski is hosting the Mem Cup. As much as I hate this comparison but Cataford is the Desnoyers of the league next year. He’s the best player available and would be a big time target for them. Not saying Chicoutimi wouldn’t be interested but I think keep an eye on Rimouski when it comes to Cataford.
