I will be shocked if they move Shortall. His value to this roster is paramount.

Every single time I watch the Eagles play - he's the balls of the team. He doesn't take any nights off - home or away. That's what I keep thinking with the Shortall talk, he makes CB so much tougher to play against. If he's gone I'd expect five groups of forwards in the east that would be happy with that news. It's kind of like the talk about Bac upgrading Chouinard. I didn't realize both Shortall and Chouinard had those intangibles that helped their teams. If they aren't moved, that decreases the demand for 20 year olds even more. I don't expect Halifax to grab a top 20 year old for too under market price, but it shouldn't be that expensive. Cape Breton will have a competitive first round matchup between either Rimouski or Chicoutimi it looks like. The winner will probably play Baie-Comeau unless there's an upset. Obviously the Eagles aren't selling. If the Eagles make moves that help them next year as well, they could be a darkhorse this year while buying early for next year. Cibulka would have to be a 20yo Import, but he's good enough to do that if he doesn't go pro. I like Cape Breton's direction if next year is the go-for-it year. Should have a very good team next year with the high picks to improve, and only Moncton as the other contender in what should be a weaker division.

If this is true, there's alot of different scenarios that could be playing out along our blueline. Does Shortall become Expendable for an OA forward, or a younger D go to Jr. A for heavier minutes? If this is the return going back I'll be surprised but intrigued to see what happens. If this is the conclusion of our trade period I will be content. There's something to be said for not moving Shortall. One mistake many Q contenders make is going for talent over heart and character when it comes to rounding out a competitive roster. We've seen it over the years. Some years it didn't matter....other years it felt like it was what mattered the most after a disappointment. For this team at this time there's an argument to be made for riding it out with a Shortall vs paying for an upgrade that likely doesn't change the teams path all that much. It would be a pretty shit move if Sly were to send either Biggar or Shortall to Val-D'or to finish out their Q careers, both deserve better. In a non go for it year, it drives me nuts when GM's try to use 20's to drive the team. Get the right guys to lead the team, not coach the team. Move Shortall for a 20 year old forward and you are committing to 20+ mins of ice that we just don't have. If there is a deal out there that would make the Eagles better next season, then I could get behind it. Swapping 20's in hopes of beating BC in round 2, makes zero sense.

Cibulka trade expected to be announced tomorrow Hopefully its the 2 2nds we keep hearing and we keep that SJ 1st. Not a fan of committing to an overage import but if the player is good enough that shouldn't really matter.

Desjardins looks to be in the line up for the Eagles tonight, can we assume he is not on his way to Val'Dor tomorrow?

Surely Sly won't give SJs first round pick for Cibulka Can get a better player than Cibulka with SJs pick

I'd be extremely happy if it was the 2 second round picks and 1 comes back at the draft for a player. We do have some extra 19s this season that will be Q OA caliber next season.

Size at a young age can raise the floor of a player, but also create a false view of their true ceiling.

Talk on the French board is that we’re one of the teams in on Mianscum. This would be a big mistake unless it’s for an absolute bargain.
