If they force him to honor his contract, he may not go back, he would be an RFA after that and could make 3-4-5 mil per year at that point. I'm not sure what exactly you mean here. If you mean he just sits at home for a year and waits for his NHL contract to be up, that's wrong. Remember Yashin tried to do that with Ottawa and he was forced to honour the last year of his contract the following season. If he goes to Nashville for a year(or gets traded and plays out his final year elswhere), all of a sudden he is an NHL RFA and he can suddenly make a lot more money in the NHL than in the KHL.

Should start to find out more about Voynov this week. Kings rookie camp is in LA from Sept 13-15 with a 2 hr practise each morning and a scrimmage each afternoon. 24 players then travel to Phoenix to play coyotes on the 16th at 10 pm our time and 6Pm our time on the 17th...both games are being broadcast on the kings website.
Voynov, Johnathan Bernier and Drew Doughty are who I am going to be watching.
Manchester AHL training camp does not start until Oct 2nd so I would guess Wildcats should be notified middle of next week their interntions on where he will play this year.

Voynov looks big and extremely mobile carrying the puck I don't want to hear that stuff ... I want to hear that he has trouble with the physical play ... trouble keeping up with the speed of the game ... language problems causing him difficulty ... and that a year of Jr would be best for him ...

seriously when was the last time we had an impact player on the Cats roster that was a Euro? with all the focus/time/effort, is it worth it to have these euro's as no shows? -I do hope this Voynof does play here in Monkeytown, he looks like he would be a huge asset.

The last two years aside, we have had some very good euros - Karsums, Bartulis, Zakharov, Oduya, Thoresen and many others ...

He has been in NA all summer ... that was never an issue. The issue is still there regarding who holds his rights ... and whether or not LA will send him to Jr. He isn't signed to any card yet in LA and so his contract hasn't kicked in ... so the issue will still be there if we try to sign him and play him. He may have to sit out until the issues are ironed out. If Bathurst had a high end Euro that had elligibility issues ... and the question was out there that he was an elligible Q player ... would you be happy to let him play in Bathurst until a decison was made ? I doubt it ... and most teams will be in the same boat ... they won't be happy with Moncton icing Voinov if he isn't clearly eligible.

I guess I assumed that the fact that he was playing in these games would mean the NHL had deemed him eligible - would a player not have to be signed to either a contract or a free agent try-out form approved by the NHL in order to play in these games. I also assume that the CHL would follow the NHL's lead ... if the NHL feels he is property of the Kings, then the Kings could assign him where they wish ... we would be securing his release not from Russia, but from the LA Kings. Perhaps I am wrong as I am by no means an expert on international contract law.

Perhaps I am wrong as I am by no means an expert on international contract law. I think the NHL perspective and the CHL perspective are a bit different. All NHL teams want to simply eliminate and ignore the claims made by the KHL ... so nobody will oppose an NHL team ignoring the KHL claims ... as it benefits them all. They all probably have a few players in their stable that fall under "questionable" with respect to NA eligibility. One team ignoring the claims means they all can. In the CHL however ... these players are only here for a short time ... and not many CHL teams have players that are coming into question. So if Moncton has a high end kid that is ineligible to play in Canada ... some teams may make a stink and call it an unfair advantage. All teams are required to get proper releases for players before they can play ... if Moncton hasn't done that then the player shouldn't be playing. Obviously I want the kid to play here ... and I don't care if proper releases have been obtained ... but it will be tough to argue with others that feel he shouldn't be playing in Moncton if he has not been released. I seem to recall a few years back ... Chicoutimi had a Euro that came into question about half way through the season ... his paperwork was never completed (something like that) ... I remember saying that Chic should forfeit every game he played in due to an inelligble player. It would be tough to argue the other way when the tables are reversed. If the Q deems him eligible to play ... then there should be no issue. Good luck getting the Q to make a smart decision.

To me, you have to get a release from the player's most recent team ... if he is signed to a contract with the Kings, and they release him to us, that should be it - unless and until someone proves in a North American court that the contract with the Kings is illegal (I am not holding my breath on that one) ... we are acting in good faith.
