The only thing I can think of, and someone said it before, but maybe this is just to have someone to backup Mosher for the little while that Lafleur is in NYC. Perhaps they aren't comfortable with having Waye as the backup.
Otherwise I can't make any sense of it.

If that is the case they would need to bring in a goalie to backup Mosher for a few weeks. But them it has me wondering if that is all it was why didn't they just keep Clermont for a few more weeks. Not that he was very good but I doubt that Gelinas is much better and either way they should be sitting on the bench watching anyway and you keep your draft pick.

Thanks that helps clarify that.
Although Clermont is an 1989 and I thought CEGEP was for 17 yr olds although his birthday is in January so that is probably why.
Anyway that explains why they couldn't keep Clermont and likely is why they needed to add an 18 yr old goalie to sit on the bench for a few weeks.

Not sure why Savard would make a trade for a goalie that has hardly played in the league. If it was someone with experience one could guess that Gelinas is being brought in to backup Lafleur because management didn't think Mosher could do the job. But with so little experience, perhaps Savard is looking for him to be the 3rd string goalie. Perhaps you guys should be giving a little more credit to Savard?

Certainly he deserves credit for that move, and others as well. It's easy to say that now, looking back, is all I'm saying. At the time people were justifiably confused by the deal, considering we had an NHL drafted goaltender coming back from camp and a top prospect 17 year old goaltender to back him up.

We've assigned blame over and over again for the same thing, so why not give credit where it's due? This thread is a sober reminder of how wrong we can be sometimes.

I would also like to give them some credit for hiring a reputable coaching team.

I've said many times Serge makes good trades.. but he also makes bad ones.. quite often he does a little of both at the same time.. this thread actually proves that.. where is Little at?
I also don't think a single person (except walleee) said anything bad about the hiring of Guy Chouinard

I think the biggest problem I've ever had with Serge's management as far as the hockey side of things is that he never seemed to have a plan. It always seemed like he was managing by the seat of his pants. I'm hopeful that Chouinard isn't going to continue that trend.

Savard should be given credit for acquiring Gelinas and people have done that. I've even said in another post that it was a good pick up and that someone did their homework when they were scouting him. If you had taken the same amount of time that it took to dig out a post that I had made almost 4 months ago, and try to find examples of people giving credit, you would have realized that people do give credit where credit is due. Yes a good pickup, whoever was scouting him for the Rocket did their homework on him.
