The P.E.I. Rocket has acquired rugged, 20 year old, winger Bradley Gallant of Summerside, P.E.I. from the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Gallant, 6 ft, 200 lb is just returning from American Hockey League Training Camp and will be joining the Rocket for their 3 games in 3 night’s road trip in the province of Québec.
In return the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will receive from the Rocket their 12th round QMJHL Entry Draft Pick in the year 2009.
“Because we have a lot of young players on our team, having a player such as Bradley will help them a lot” said Serge Savard Jr., President and General Manager of the P.E.I. Rocket.

So I take it that Swit is on his way out? Obviously.......
Love the addition of Gallant........im just not sure about using a 20yr old spot on him.
Where does he fit in the lineup?
Which Forward loses a spot?
Schmidt? Wright?
or.........?

I would say Wright is on his way to the Caps for this season. Just a guess though.

It also means that they won't be going after one of the Remparts extra 20 yr olds and I am not sure if using an over-age spot on Gallant is a big improvement over Swit. I said it before the season started and am still saying it, wish they would use that over-age spot on a top 6 forward or a steady, reliable defenseman. Gallant adds toughness to the team but I don't think toughness is one of the major problems for the Rocket right now. I hope this move wasn't made by Savard with the thought that having another local kid will help boost attendance.

Swit goes, giving Clow Deighan and Malouin more ice time to help bring them along. Certainly an improvement. Hard to say how much service Main gets back on D. As for Gallant I think this will take some pressure off guys like Paynter and Gervais Walker from having to be the tough guy when need arises.

NOT good news as far as I'm concerned.
The most glaring problem in these first 9 games has been the lack of a reliable, experienced, solid, defensive defenceman.
So what do we do?
Acquire a goon.
Makes no sense - this ain't the kind of move that'll get us out of last place, gang!

I've always liked Gallant and I think he'll be a good addition to the Rocket. It's been a long while since we've had a tough guy who was a legit fighter and could play a little (Bonneau) and we've got that in Bradley.
This acquisition raises more questions than it answers.....
Does this mean that Wright returns to the MJAHL?
Is Swit finished or are we going to carry 4 20's for a while?
If Swit is finished, do we use Main primarily as a defenceman?
Does Gallant last the season, or do we upgrade on him later with a 20 y/o defenceman?
If Gallant lasts the season, do we look to improve our blueline with an 18/19 y/o defenceman at Christmas?
Not looking at positions or needs, just looking at players, Gallant is an upgrade over Swit as a 20 y/o.

Not looking at positions or needs, just looking at players, Gallant is an upgrade over Swit as a 20 y/o. cb Gallant will mostly be a 4th liner and Jean only uses his 4th line once in a blue moon. Not much of an upgrade on your 20 yr old spot when his ass is on the bench most of the game.

He does have skill, and I believe he seen regular icetime with CB last season. Maybe with the addition of Gallant, Jean will feel more comfortable playing the 3rd/4th line a bit more.
