As Wingman posted in the game thread, changes could be needed to turn this team around.
I thought it would be good to start a thread to see what changes some posters feel are needed.
From players, to coaches. Etc.........
I feel that we need a top two line forward. Either someone to play with Mo and Walker, or someone to play on the 2nd line while Latal is on the top.
Getting Gallant was a good move. IMO, they are better off with what he brings then what Swit was bringing, even though neither player was gonna put the team on top.
I feel that Schmidt will be gone.....sooner then later IMO. If a player like Coon-Come can do the same job, and perhaps better, then I say go for it. After Christmas, you may see Coon-Come back with this team, but that all depends on what Savard does .....or doesn't do. Either way though, Schmidt wont be around.
For some reason, if we lose the remaining two games this weekend, Jean will/should be in hot water. Hopefully Savard is doing some searching, as this team is sinking fast under Coach Jean!!
I feel that we could see anywhere from 3-4 current Rocket players gone at the trade deadline.

one change is coming.. if this team keeps playing like this... i'll save my 450 bucks next spring
this is beyond ridiculous
what should happen.. won't
what will happen will be Serge cleaning up alot of dressing room mess.. team limping into playoffs.. losing in round one.. raising ticket prices.. holding media conference to whine about the island market and then promise us that next year will be better
yawn

We need a top 6 forward and some experience on the blueline and hopefully one of those experienced D is a puck moving defenseman.
I know it has been talked to death on here but something has got to change regarding coaching, plain and simple. I said in Jean's first year here that the Rocket will never ice a winning team with him behind the bench, unfortunately it took until the 3rd year for more people to realize that. If Savard doesn't want to acknowledge that coaching is a problem, then he is going to have an even bigger problem come next fall when season ticket sales are even lower.
But I agree with Bois 100% on his previous post in this thread and another post where he said that the Rocket seem to think that people should feel lucky that we have the Rocket no matter how badly they play. It's the same bullshit story ever year. Before the season started Savard went on about how attendance was down and it was because of the on-ice product. That's great and dandy, but do something about it, don't go out and prove it by going 3-7 in the first 10 games and looking like a team that doesn't deserve to even make the playoffs.
Here's a suggestion that Flipper can take back to the Rocket. Perhaps that the Rocket should be putting their money where their mouth is in regards to making an effort to putting a better product on the ice. They should offer something along the lines that if the Rocket are not in a playoff spot come the end of November or if they don't win a certain amount of games by the end of November (just throwing November out there as an example) they offer refunds to the season ticket holders/flex pack holders for the remaining games on the schedule. Some people may think that is nuts, and I know the Rocket would never do it, but if the product was that good not many people should be wanting refunds, right? Give Savard and company an incentive to actually do something about it and ensure that it happens.

Defense is where the changes need to be made.

Starters Its The Coaching... 2nd Laf has to get his ass in gear or he needs to be gone He is playing like shit all these weak goals etc. The defense needs to pick it up a bit more. imo A lot of these loses have to do with laf and how he is playing. I think he needs to go.

I agree that Lafleur is not on the top of his game, but not sure if he is solely at fault for alot of the losses. He isn't the one taking the penalties, he isn't the one playing on the abysmal power play and he isn't the one responsible for the players uninspired play. As I said in another thread he has been left out to dry alot but has made the big save when needed and also let some soft ones in too. I'm not saying he is blameless but not sure if alot of those losses have to do with him only.

I feel sorry for the rocket players personally. Too many penalties, especially bench ones and that links directly to the coach. No one out there knows when they are going out, the lines are always jumbled up and you can see the players looking around like lost puppies most of the time. Plus its way,way too early in the season to be playing 1 1/2 lines every game! The team has the talent but Jean can't get the job done PERIOD! If we don't get a real coach in the near future you can right this season off as well, I know its early but he obviously can't motivate the players and the longer this goes the further behind we go and making it very hard to climb out of the basement. We've had season tickets since the day this team arrived and never missed a game but I gotta tell ya, right now (for the first time) I don't even care anymore about going to the games with whats been going on. I hope something gives soon people.

What do you think of this idea.
There are a number of people on this site that write excellent posts. You can tell that they have done the proper research before giving personal opinions. I am sure the same group know each other outside this forum. . My suggestion is that these people get together and write a post as to what they feel is necessary to turn this team around from the dresing room to head office. They could post their opinion and let all of us read it and make comments if necessary. Once the initial group are happy with the post they could mail it to Serge. It could very well end up in FILE 13 but at least he will have it in writing. I suspect that he reads or gets reports on what is being said on this post. The trouble is that on this forum there are a lot of emotions and personal opinions stated without credible research to back it up. This is just a thought I had after reading different posts on different threads pertaining to this very thread "What Changes Are Needed"

Serge needs to go behind the bench right now and stay there until the Christmas break, assess the players and search for a replacement. Start the 2nd half refreshed and with hope for a brighter future. I beleive that this organization needs an experienced Coach/GM who would hold both jobs and be totally responsible for the on ice product.

Dont think thats gonna happen from what i hear Serge is too busy planning his vacation to the Dominican for the winter and besides would a person who is riding his Daddys Coat tails be the best choice even for a short term coach. He isnt good for this team he prooved that in Montreal and he is doing the same for PEI, he ignores the team pretty much and IMO does not care what we want as long as he gets payed he is going to be happy no matter how we do!

Getting rid of the marketing guy probably isn't a bad thing, but since year 1 here we haven't had a great team, 2 first round playoff exits and one year they never even made it because moves were made to late and the team came up a point or 2 short, and was relying on someone else to lose. Being a season ticket holder this season I'm very disappointed in the team, and I don't think it's all the players, sure they have something to do with it, but if the team hasn't done well the past 3 seasons, and are in the hole right now, then if we do have a team, why aren't they playing?? A few of our players have something to prove this season and right now it's sure not showing. Even if some moves are made at Xmas, this team needs to improve now or they'll be too far back to even make the playoffs, and I forsee another first round exit. I'll definetly be weighing my options at the end of the season on whether I'll be renewing my ticket or not, if this continues then I won't be, and Serge can say all he wants on how good the team will be mid summer, I think the fans are starting to finally see that it's a way to sell season tickets and nothing more....we all enjoy the game, and I don't mind losing, but it's time to turn this ship around and have a team playing above .500 hockey for the remainder of this season.

Speaking of marketing, the Gatineau Olympiques proved to me that the on ice product is what attracts fans to the game. It isn't promotions, russian duos, or cute beer girls. This is a franchise that is consistently competitive. The rink is shit and people still show up and go bananas with a passion for hockey. Get the Rocket working consistently and hard and fans will support them. Fire Jean!!
