I have a feeling the Wildcats won't actually be picking with those draft picks this draft, especially if they win the bid. I do see a few big deals with BAT being possible too. One that makes way too much sense to me is a deal around Dobson for the 2019 Titan 1st round pick... something maybe like To Moncton - Noah Dobson Keenan MacIsaac To Bathurst - 2019 1st (BAT) 2020 1st 2018 2nd 2019 2nd Jacob Stewart Just spitballing, but I think the value is probably in that ballpark. I think there's probably another piece in that trade coming from Moncton if a deal were to happen. The 4 picks you mentioned is a good start but I can see those 4 picks going for Dobson alone to be completely honest. Especially if you're getting a full 2 years out of him. But I fully expect Dobson to not be moved at the draft and only at Christmas IF he is moved at all next season because at that point the team will know where they are rather than before the season starts. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he's moved at 19 depending how the team fairs next season. Similar to Joseph in charlottetown. Only way I see them actually pulling the trigger is if we get the full on elite price for him and I definitely think there's a team willing to pay that for the best D in the league. Dobson is going to be the best D in the league next year and was already top 3 this year. I understand that 2019 1st may be a lottery pick but that will only really be determined around Christmas so that's when I think you pull the trigger on moving Dobson if you're already bottoming out because that pick becomes that much more valuable in acquiring. I also don't think Stewart's value is that high as a prospect, he's still young be doesn't impress me as a prospect that could become a regular for the Titan. As for McIsaac I think his value is worth a bit more than the 2nd rounder we paid for him. He had 30 points this year as an 18 YO and is a top 4 D and showed how reliable he was this season. I think he could actually haul an extra 2nd or a prospect for him as he will be a 2 year guy. Similar to Holwell when we got him from Moncton, Holwell put up 30 some points at 18 then at 19 he was worth a 1st/2nd/3rd. Now I'm not saying that's what McIsaac is worth but I definitely think he's worth more than 1 2nd rounder and could get a little extra for him.

For me there may be a conditional pick attached to Dobson, because I think he's good enough to play in the NHL at 19, maybe not even depending on who drafts him. Talking to some NHL scouts and watching him play myself, I would not be putting money on him being back as a 19 year old without some pretty big odds. The reason I think Dobson is dealt at the draft is only if it's a deal between these two clubs, the Titan are in desperate need of picks and the Wildcats are in desperate need of a team if they win the mem cup bid. Shannon needs to make a splash at the draft. The 2019 Bathurst pick at the draft is huge, because it allows Bathurst to control their own fate. Trading Dobson early increases the value of that pick, not only can the Titan guarantee themselves another top 3 pick, but they guarantee themselves another top 3 pick in one of the strongest draft years in recent memories. It is possible I'm undervaluing MacIsaac, but I think the deal is probably good within the value of a 2nd-3rd round pick give or take. Jacob Stewart was just spit-balling, but he's a prospect I personally like, former teammate of Logan Chisholm, Big bodied goal scoring center and his skating has drastically improved. He's certainly not a key piece to the deal but the Titan do need to ice a team next year, and Stewart is a guy who can definitely jump in and play. The other reason I think it could be done at the draft is the whole "If you wait until Christmas you can get more". 99/100 this is a myth. Teams talk constantly, GMs talk to each other throughout the season, and I guarantee several teams have already inquired about him for next year. Again give or take a pick, every GM who's interested already knows what that move will cost, and who their competitors are.

Also ... a deal at the 2018 draft puts more value into the 2018 picks that are part of the deal.

Agreed, the value of draft picks gets jacked up as long as there's a specific name left on the board that a team values. Moncton doesn't trade #13 to Halifax last year if Mercer or Peach are on the board, Halifax doesn't make that trade if Barron isn't on the board, for example.

Teams talk constantly, GMs talk to each other throughout the season, and I guarantee several teams have already inquired about him for next year. Again give or take a pick, every GM who's interested already knows what that move will cost, and who their competitors are. It does make sense that Dobson could make the jump at 19, similar to Sam Girard this season so there probably would be a conditional tag on him which in turn means a trade of 2 1sts, 2 2nds a pretty good deal since he would only be there for the year. Maybe another pick involved if he comes back at 19, similar to the Dubois trade. I can understand a lot of your reasoning's so it's very possible this happens, however I truly believe Dobson will be drafted to the NHL as a Titan and not a Wildcat or anyone else. I think he is traded at Christmas and that could just be my gut feeling I have but whenever and whatever he's traded for I'm sure Sly will get a lot of what this team needs back. I think there could be as many as 6-8 teams that feel they'll compete next year and will all probably take a jab at trying to get Dobson so this is another reason I feel moving him at Christmas is more likely to evaluate the teams record and offers from teams who would be getting more desperate to acquire him. However this creates a bit of controversy because his value could technically be lower at Christmas since the teams inquiring might only have him for 4 months compared to the full season. However like you said the 2019 draft has some elite talent so getting the most out of him would be nice and much needed. It's hard to predict what the Titan will be doing at the draft because they have very little draft picks and some extra OA bodies to move. But they also have a decent amount of returning players as well. If I had to guess I'd say Morand is moved at the draft over Dobson, in order to recoup some picks and maybe a prospect as well. My guess is a 1st, 2nd, and a top prospect so that's potentially 3 guys on the roster right there. It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens when it's all said and done but I'm actually trusting Sly to get the right deals down for the right value and at the right times.

Isn't there a monetary bonus for a junior team who's player gets drafted in the 1st round of the NHL draft? If that is the case there's pretty much a zero percent chance Dobson is traded before the NHL draft IMO.

Yes there is a development bonus that goes to a junior club should one of their players get drafted. The higher the player gets drafted the higher the bonus the club receives. A club will receive development money for a 7th round pick but not as much as a 1st round pick. Should Dobson get traded at the Q draft, which is before the NHL draft, the Titan will still receive the player development bonus and not the team that drafted him. I'm not 100% sure how the bonus is paid out for players like Veleno who was traded at xmas but I think it's based on percentages and the amount of games played with each club so the Sea Dogs would receive the bulk of the development bonus. Imports are similar as well. I think these development dollars could also be used behind the scenes during negotiations for player trades or import releases. Also, CHL teams pay out development bonuses to midget teams, junior A/B/C teams and prep schools should a player get drafted to a CHL team and sign a player's contract. Used to be $1,500.00. Unsure of what it is now.

with the Q hosting there will be a lot of teams in the hunt for the Memorial Cup slot thus the return for Dobson should remain very high at the trade deadline and also give us a chance to be an over achieving team similiar to the Islanders this season
in any case I am sure Sly will make several moves at the draft to keep us both competitive now and into the future ... players like Keenan MacIsaac obtained from CHI have turned out to be very good and have excellent trade value at the draft

There are certainly more teams than Bathurst that Moncton may set up deals with.
as mentioned above the islanders are evidence that you can't count any team out in pre season, but you'd have to the the Armada, Tigre, and possibly a few other teams will either be sellers or actively hunting for picks at the draft.
Corbeil and Teasdale are 2 fish that are still in the pond.

A deal could be worked such that he actually changes hands after the NHL draft (August), where Bathurst sends 2019 and/or 2020 picks in his place, and those get returned for him in August. He gets NHL drafted as a Titan that way. The same two firsts and two seconds and a young player not named Pelletier (or whatever was proposed) could be sent and Bathurst would still have the picks for the 2018 draft. Perhaps Stephen Fox would be a good piece in the deal ... ran away with the NS Major Midget scoring race.

Ben Higgins pre-injury comes to mind. He doesnt have the complete game like Jacob Hudson or the size like Jake Stewart.

Lots of draft talk these day I wonder when the CSS rankings will be released? The Draft in a lot of ways resembles picking a hockey team it is quite easy and most agree on the top ten, after that the opinions are quite varied The draft in quite similar in the first 4 rounds a lot of teams focus on the same players, and who you draft depends a lot on where you are slotted..Rounds from 5 down produce a lot of quality players that is where a GM with talent and research, supported by a good scouting comes into play..This year will be very interesting to see who the Cats have at the table.
