With the opening of the Events Centre officially one year away (completion date July 2018 with grand opening in Sept-2018. I thought I'd make a thread that housed some info in case anyone is interested in following along. There isnt much discussion on this topic other than building the team towards it but it will certainly drastically change the experience of being a Wildcat Fan. A few tidbits-Seat installation is supposed to begin this week & be completed before the end of the year. The basic seats are roughly the same size as those in the ACC, which I found quite comfortable. -Naming rights still yet to be determined, my personal guess is a bank..possibly TD with their increased presence in Moncton recently announcing jobs here. -They began work on the outdoor plaza recently and you can see them working on the stage if you drive by. Photos/VideosHere's a recent photo of the interior with a line drawn where the Coliseum lower bowl stops, to give you an idea of the size farm5.staticflickr.com/4403/36200781814_1bdfa16af0_h.jpgThe steepness is comparable to the lower bowl at the Bell Centre which will make for terrific sightlines. August update from the City with a photo slideshow www.moncton.ca/Business/Downtown_Centre/Downtown_Centre_-_Monthly_Construction_Updates.htmWebcamswww.moncton.ca/Visitors/Web_Cameras/Downtown_Centre.htmwww.moncton.ca/Visitors/Web_Cameras/Downtown_Centre_Internal.htmFurther DiscussionI've been following along with this thread on the Skycraper Forum which dates back to 2013 before the project was approved. Some quality posters on there that seem to have good sources. forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=203545&page=88

The main concern is still parking. I think if they don't have a plan for that, it could take a bite out of attendance once the "newness" wears off.

We renewed as STH for this season so will be interesting to get the scuttlebutt amongst the local lot for the new location. Last chattering session with said lot suggested a "wait and see" scenario but that was in the mist of coming off a terrible season. If the Cats have a successful year this season well that just may motivate folks to take a look at the new location. Having said that price/ parking will impact , no doubt.

I suspect they may see a bit of a shift in the fan base ... being downtown will appeal to younger adults with disposable income who don't mind walking a bit and are up for an evening out where the game is just one portion ... but won't appeal so much to those who are older or otherwise limited in walking around, or to those who are more price conscious.

Yeah, those on a tight budget, parking cost is a concern. Also those with a family, add $10 or $20 to an evening out and that may bee too much. I suspect the "prime" parking will be made part of the cost of season tickets, but those are not the fans they risk losing, at least not 75-80% of them.

I have a few colleagues with businesses around that area and I have asked to park in their lots after hours, but too far away from the actual need to get commitments.
I don't think that parking costs will be $10 to $20 per night. The City has "Event parking" for things happening downtown and typically charge $2 ... usually for Capitol theatre events. But, private lots may charge more.
I am not concerned with the parking ... I'm willing to adapt. I'd be willing to pay say $60 for a season pass to park in a lot nearby.

Isnt Moncton famous for having private lot owners boot cars on big events downtown? I can only imagine that the ones that boot cars would charge an arm and a leg to park in their private lot.

I don't believe most Wildcats games will be a parking concern..the 2 combined lots at Heritage Court will cover most of the needs for a typical Wildcats crowd of 3000-5000. Those lots combined are comparable to the parking available at the coliseum now. They began prep work for this last summer and have expanded their spaces & are ready to install gates. The City is installing a sidewalk right now on the left hand side of foundry street to make the walk from that lot easier/safer. 10$ seems very high to me, but 5$ would be more than fair. Its very possible you'll see a large portion of this lot discounted to season ticket holders, Halifax implements that strategy right now. The issues will be when you have major events that are bringing crowds of 6000+. I'd imagine opening night will be a sellout as well as whatever this concert ends up being will be a test of this. In addition to this their snow removal strategy will need to be aggressive after snowstorms so you don't end up with half of those spaces unavailable after storms.

If you want my opinion, the boot thing is a crock of shit ... the people who are getting booted are those who choose to park on private property for free. At this point (agree that this wasn't necessarily the case early on), the signage is pretty good at most of the spots that use the boot. So long as you park in a designated area (yes, this may require a bit longer walk, or, gasp, payment to the lot owner!) you have nothing to worry about. And for that matter, if I had to choose between arriving and finding my car immobilized with a boot and a number to call, or simply gone because it was towed away to god knows where and now I need to find it and get to it, I actually think the boot would be the preferred option by far.

I don't have a concern for that ... those are people that aren't willing to pay to park and would rather "steal" a parking space. If the price is too high to park in their lots ... don't park there.

I've been told that we should expect an announcement that a parking garage will be built within the next year or so.

I've been told that we should expect an announcement that a parking garage will be built within the next year or so. A parking garage is the worst place to park for a hockey game. Everybody leaves at once and it takes up to 45 mins to get out of the garage depending on what level you are on.

That's one thing I dislike about games in Halifax. Only fix could be for everybody to pay up front, then drive out.
