He had 29 goals last year as an 18 yr old ... 16 g as a 17 yo. He was better than a ppg player in Moosejaw (51 pts in 40 games), before being traded to Prince George where he slumped off to 18 pts in 31 games. 6'6" and 207 ... seems tall and skinny. The quote on the page says "Popugaev has skill with the puck, utilizes his reach well and can beat defensemen one-on-one." Have we ever seen an Import get picked up on waivers and join another league in the CHL? Abols in Bathurst last year ... was an OA, though ... not sure if that changes anything ...

Yup ... but was he officially in an import roster spot? They have 4 Russians and a Latvian showing on their roster from last year ... Miromanov was not an import ... I believe Sokolka (didn't last long) was also not an Import ... Kusnetsov was an Import ... Galygin was an import but only lasted 4 games. So it seems that Abols was in an import slot.

Miromanov was also selected in the import draft though in 2014 by London, I guess because he came and played in a different league in Canada it nullified his import status?

I think given where we are likely to be this season (mid-pack), we are better off holding onto Khovanov in hope he comes next year ... would be a high impact player for the opening year in the new centre. Pretty sure that if we add a euro this season we would need to release Khovanov. Of course, I say this with no inside knowledge of the relationship between him and the team - perhaps the bridge has been burned and there is little or no chance of him coming next year either. Something must have went sideways with Miromanov ... we could have held on to Desjardins for a while, he is a decent Q calibre d-man that we basically gave away ... only to have an OA spot sit empty. My guess is they were expecting Miromanov would have been here by now ... I don't think we'd have to release Khovanov (or any import) until we actually have 3 with the team. We only have one Euro signed to a player card right now. Khovanov is also still signed to another league so he isn't even our property. Where long term illness is in play here ... Khovanov may qualify immediately for the special list. I could be wrong, but I think the "special list" is only for those that don't report a full season. Only applicable in the off season.

Well if that was the case then perhaps this big kid from Prince George could also be brought in as a non-import. It would be nice to have a list of the rules surrounding Imports.

Miromanov was a non import because he played Jr.a in Ontario at 18 and established residency there. Similar to Tmej, Kuzmin, Denisov, Kiselev and Putinsev.

Everyone is mentioning Miromanov. However, any else find it strange that 20 year old Zach Fischer randomly left Medicine Hat last week. He’s a 2017 Calgary Flames draft pick. Ritchie Thibeau is a Flames scout. He's playing for Spokane.

From what I heard, both Kuznetsov and Miromanov cannot get their release from their respective KHL team. So this file looks as dead as Kuz in Bathurst.
