i havent a clue on that stuff and readily admit it
but i am pretty sure Chlapik and the Sens are done...... he just never developed..... it's not like the opportunity wasnt there.... maybe he goes to Europe and gets his career back on track and we see him again in the NHL someday..... but probably not

I expect that he has an arrangement to play in the Czech league. He was playing with Sparta Praha prior to the January startup and likely has a deal in place to return to that club. Still, it's a little weird how he was outright released. I'm certainly no CBA expert, but I would think the Sens would be able to assign him to Sparta Praha and retain his negotiating rights. Usually that type of buyout guys go to Europe, likely Sparta Praha. He could come back later on as a FA. If that was the case they would have assigned him there on loan, not voided his contract.

Agreed.... something strange in it all.
All Ottawa had to do to retain Chlapik's rights was to send him a qualifying offer by the deadline after the regular season....then they control him until his 27th birthday.
For whatever reason they wanted clear of him right away and did things this way... and now he's a free agent to sign with any team for 2021-22.
The other thing that is weird to me is on the terms of the buyout. A normal CBA buyout is where a team buys out a player by offering 2/3 of the remaining value of the contract, but the cap hit is spread out over twice as many years remaining on the deal. For a younger player like Chlapik, the buyout is supposed to be 1/3 of the remaining value, but still spread out over 2 years. To have Chlapik's buyout cap hit for this year and next is not advantageous to the Sens, when they could've just let his deal expire and then walk away from him by not extending a qualifying offer. His buyout is not shown as part of their cap profile on Cap Friendly.... so there's definitely something strange going on here.
For Chlapik.... he needs to get playing in Europe and if he finds success there, use that as a bargaining chip to sign a deal as an unrestricted free agent.

Tonight with Ovechkin out of the lineup due to a lower body injury its Daniel Sprong moving up to the Ovi spot on Washingtons top line. I think it's his shot they want on that spot.
EDIT: Sprong scored 2 goals in Ovi's spot - was games 1st star.

Sprong is in year 1 of a 2 year deal making the league minimum. For Washington, he's a value contract. If he can keep producing this year and next, he'll be in line for a nice pay day on a multi-year deal. Sprong havin a semi breakout season.... gotta admit i for one didnt see it coming... good for him

Pretty good for a replacement. Sprong is also a player who will be someone Seattle could consider in the expansion draft. He has played his way into that discussion.

Congratulations to Brad Yetman on being named head coach of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Great opportunity for a great young man to be named head coach in such an awesome organization.

Aidan Northcott announced today on social media that he is moving on from the Islanders to take a job working with the Dairy Farmers of PEI.
Congratulations and best of luck to Aidan who did GREAT work in the social media department with the team for the past few years.
Those of us who have been around for the long haul have seen many changes in the people who work in marketing and promotions for the team... it's the nature of the business. Some have been better than others. Aidan did an AWESOME job of getting lots of content pumped out for the Islanders the past few years.
His work will be missed.
