I think Shannon reads the boards, sees the buzz around rumours and what other teams are doing, and just can't help but dive in. Every time it seems like there is a clear path, he suddenly changes it because - boredom? Has he been spending his off season in Bathurst? Something in the water there? Maybe it will work out, but he has a pretty lofty goal of icing a Memorial Cup winning roster next year, after finishing dead last last year. Halifax won the memorial cup 2 years after finishing with 45 pts so I dont see how its that big of a deal. Not that I'm saying this Cats roster is anywhere near that moose roster but you can turn a roster around in 2 years with the right things falling into place. I don't see the moose roster being that far ahead of the Cats especially if Zadina doesnt come back. Cats have a very solid group of forwards that shouldnt need a whole lot added to it. The ceiling is high for this group with Khovanov/Pelletier/MacDonald and the 4 18 year old FW. If they focus all their assets on adding 2 top defenseman they will have a very good team.. Halifax is the favourite to get the bid but I don't see it being due to roster. I agree with everything you said. However, trading 3 assets for Sylvestre won't help them in getting those 2 stud d-men they desperately need. I can see making that deal if the cost is a 2nd rounder, buy waste a 1st round pick and a good prospect for a guy who would be a #3 on a powerhouse team? If Sylvestre is your #1 or 2 D-man you are likely not a serious Memorial Cup threat.

Sylvestre trade is posted on the Wildcats website.
Quebec’s 2018 1st rounder, Bathurst’s 2018 2nd rounder and Mathieu Boulianne to Shawinigan.
Derek Dicaire to B-C. Wildcats get a 2018 8th round pick.
Moncton gets a 4th round pick from Bathurst as Miromanov didn’t report to start the season. Bathurst gets a 6th round from Moncton.
Kyle Auger, Riley MacRae and Colton McKenna have been released.

I really hope they don't decide to hold onto Welsh so that they can recoup some of these assets.

They will award the tournament in April, and so we can't wait until the next draft to get better ... it has to be now. So whatever team you see at the end of this trading period is what we will be evaluated on ... as will Halifax.

IMO Halifax has an advantage to us in every aspect of the bid ... the only way we get it is if the Q decides to reward the city for investing in a new rink ...

Who gets to host the Memorial Cup 2019 will be decided by these individuals from the selection committee:
"The QMJHL also announced the composition of its independent Selection Committee which is comprised of:
Scott Smith (President and COO, Hockey Canada) * President of the Committee *
Glenn Stanford (President, Stanford Communications)
Nancy K. Orr (Chief Provincial Judge, PEI Provincial Court)
Patrick Sinnott (Chairman of the Board of Governors, University of PEI)
Michel Côté (President and Lobbyist, Gestion Michel Côté / President, QMJHL Hall of Fame Selection Committee)
The QMJHL Commissioner, Gilles Courteau, will also be part of the Selection Committee as a non-voting member."
Does anybody know anything about the members of the committee other than Gilles Courteau who is a non-voting member.

Shannon is a complete idiot, worst GM the Cats have ever had and the worst in the CHL IMHO, continues to get hosed in deals where we acquire or ship out players. All that said this still has RKI's finger prints all over it, as I was told this summer by a former Cats coach, RKI thinks it is easy to rebuild with FA and picks don't mean much, he has this go for it dumb ass mentality all the time, this is not the corporate world Robert. They will continue to lose fans at this rate, they refuse to do a proper rebuild and I have had it. I hope they lose the memorial cup bid and have egg on their face with an near empty new building to watch his middle of the pack team year after year.

Almost all those Free Agents have now been cut. Last month they said they were excited about Auger as a a Wildcat for the next 2-3 years and he’s already gone. The FA system is about hoping 1 of the 10 turnout. Seitz was a good find but no point in management and media trying to convince us every FA is going to have an impact

We still have Dunda, Seitz, Pataki, Kuzmin and Tucker ... with the first 3 being regular contributors ... and the last two being a work in progress. I think Auger can be a good Q player but our team is in a flux right now ... and the same with Colton Mckenna ... but who do you sit to get them the playing time they need. We had too many Dmen with Miromanov coming in and now Sylvestre. Tucker probably has more potential at 17 (Big and an NHL bloodline) and needs to play so Auger has to go. I think he is a pretty good 18 YO Dman that can still play in the Q.

Not passing judgement on the quality of FAs but there is also Blackmore who was added last year.
