Saint John with 2 top 10 picks...wonder if they take a chance on Josh Lawrence. They can’t afford to take a flyer with those picks. If they pick him there he’s reporting. Think of Lawrence as this years Newhook. No one will waste a 1st rounder on him, but if teams have multiple 2nd rounders might grab him.

If he’s still kicking around in the 3rd and they have 1 or both of those picks I 100% see it happening. But I don’t think he’s still around there.

Think we need a statue of limitations on this MacDonald trade/not picking him. This is turning into the new Makarov, seems to show up in every thread . Shannon has been fired and so has the scouting staff. Time to move on I don't think anybody will move on until the damage is recovered from. Losing the #5 overall pick in the draft is not in the past. I think most people have moved on in the sense that they are not posting the same thing over and over and over on multiple boards adding nothing new to the discussion. You've probably made 100+ posts about this MacDonald thing. Maybe add it to your signature it would save you some time.

So after the Q Combine/Gatorade Challenge last weekend, I figured I'd do something a bit different.
Below is a list of my personal top 5 players from each of the Atlantic provinces.
Newfoundland - Mark Hillier, LW, Labrador City - St. Andrews College - My first time seeing Hillier this tournament, and he's got speed to burn. He's skilled with the puck, creative, and has some explosiveness in his step. He was an impact player and, should he choose the Q route, should be a top 2 round pick. Alex Power, LC, St. John's - York Simcoe Express - He's close to Hillier, not quite as explosive, more of a playmaker. Still, pretty impressive weekend, he kept up with the best players in the tournament, another guy who could go in the top 2 rounds if he chooses the Q route. Kyle Lynch, RD, Conception Bay South - Newbridge Academy - Big, physical 6'4 defenseman who can skate. He's not a flashy player, but he's one of the best defensemen in the atlantic region. Noah Wilson, LD, St.John's - Kings Edgehill Academy - We're a bit deeper into the draft at this point, but Wislon is a good skater, pretty smart, still needs to fill out. More of an offensive guy. Brandon Casey, LD, Grand Falls-Windsor - Newbridge Academy - 6'2, has some puck skills, but he's inconsistent. Decision making can be questionable, but he's got a nice toolkit.
Prince Edward Island - Charlie DesRoches, RD, Days Corner - Selects Academy U16 - I hadn't seen DesRoches since last year when he played as the #1 D on Kensington as an underage player. He's grown and improved since then, and he's a high end offensive defenseman who can skate and rush the puck. Potential 1st round talent, but seriously committed to the college route. Jordan Spence, LD, Cornwall - Summerside Western Capitals - This is his second year of eligibility, he passed through the draft in his first year due to his size, but has grown to a respectable 5'10. He dominated MHL scoring over a PPG. He's major junior ready. Cole Larkin, RD, Mermaid - Charlottetown Pride - He's a big riser for me, I liked his game at the combine. He's primarily an offensive guy, but he's got a good stick and showed a great effort defensively as well. We're a bit further down the draft at this point, but I think top 5 rounds. Keiran Gallant, LC, Covehead - Stanstead College - Hard working player in all 3 zones, good skater, potential bottom 6 guy at the Q. Bit undersized, but good hands, and he's quick. Marc Richard, LW, Clinton - Kensington Wild - He's got decent size, he's a good skater, pretty good 2 way player, lacks a bit of finish offensively.
New Brunswick - Lukas Cormier, LD, Ste-Marie-de-Kent - Moncton Flyers - Elite offensive defenseman, undersized but he's incredibly smart. He's a very good skater, incredible at getting pucks through on the net, and can take over a game when he wants. Josh Lawrence, RC, Fredericton - Selects Academy U18 - Immensely skilled, but there may be some motivation issues. To be fair, he has no intention of coming to the Q, so maybe dominating the Combine wasn't really that important to him. Alex David, LW, Pigeon Hill - Newbridge Academy - He's a very quick skater, great release, and skilled. He's a bit undersized, but he put up huge numbers and should be able to make the jump immediately. Late 1st/early 2nd rounder for me. Nicholas Savoie, LD, Dieppe - Newbridge Academy - Really strong skater, he's got good puck skills, he's a good 2-way player, can carry the puck and generate offense. I do have some issues with his decision making at times, but physically he's got all the tools. Ethan Pearson, G, Fredericton - Newbridge Academy - 6'1 goaltender, probably a 2nd or 3rd rounder. He looks like he can jump into the Q next year as a backup.
Nova Scotia - Alex Drover, RC, Hammonds Plains - Halifax MacDonalds - Big game player, goalscorer with some high end skill. There are holes in his game for sure, like most goal scorers he can be streaky, but he's creative and has good speed. Drover is a real impact player. I have him as a top 10 player. Brady Burns, LC, Port Williams - Valley Wildcats - Undersized center, but he's very skilled, hard to knock off the puck, he's a possession player. He's not as much of a finisher as Drover, but there's certainly potential there for a big numbers at the junior level. Ben Allison, LC, Halifax, Dartmouth Steele Subaru - A powerforward who can finish, not the greatest skater, but he's improved significantly since the start of the year. He battles in the corners, has a great release, he wins pucks and scores goals, lots to like here. Probably a 2nd/3rd round pick in my eyes. Ethan Landry, LW, Halifax, Halifax MacDonalds - He's a speedy 2-way player, he creates offense through speed, wins pucks and makes quick decisions. Wore the C for NS which was a nice sign, he's a hard worker so he's certainly earned it. Sonny Kabatay, RW, Membertou, Cape Breton Unionized Tradesmen - Though he didn't have the best tournament, he's a goalscorer with a physical edge. Probably still a top 4 round pick

www.hockeyprospect.com/2018-qmjhl-draft-top-150-prospects-march-8th-2018/If I were to make a mock draft out of the top 10 prospects from that post (and maybe more), this is what I think would happen. 1st overall to Chicoutimi: Hendrix Lapierre 2nd overall to Saint John: Josh Lawrence (they will take a risk on him) 3rd overall to Shawinigan: William Villeneuve 4th overall to Charlottetown: Lukas Cormier 5th overall to Sherbrooke: Patrick Guay 6th overall to Rouyn-Noranda: Jeremie Poirier 7th overall to Cape Breton: William Dufour 8th overall to Saint John: Mavrik Bourque 9th overall to Cape Breton: Alex Drover 10th overall to Chicoutimi: Pier-Olivier Roy I really didn't want to predict Saint John would take Josh Lawrence 2nd overall. But I feel like they will risk it.

At the year end town halls Georgie stated that they will not waste any more high picks on players that are undecided if Saint John is the place for them.

At the year end town halls Georgie stated that they will not waste any more high picks on players that are undecided if Saint John is the place for them. Unfortunately the thing that's changed is his standing amongst his peers. Compared to the expectations set for him, he disappointed at the combine. Since he's been away at Selects Academy all year, there really hasn't been many eyes on him, he was the best Bantam aged player no question, but it looks like he really hasn't progressed and he's been dropping. If Lawrence were 100% committed to reporting SJ would be foolish to take him at 2. Maybe at 8 but even that there are players on a much better trajectory than him that will be available at 8.
