What a fucking embarrassment.
When the season ended it literally never even crossed my mind that they would pass on the 13th overall pick to keep a 19 year old third pairing defenceman as their Euro. Just a terrible decision taking into account that they're not contending this season, are very thin on young defenceman and even IF (it's a big if) he has a great season I don't see a huge market for trading a Euro dman to one of the contenders.
Meanwhile we'll sit on the sidelines and watch teams like Saint John select another future star that will fit in perfectly with when they expect to contend. I miss the days of the Wildcats being a well run franchise and not one that makes decisions like this that make it look like a Mickey Mouse operation.

It’s a stupid decision to keep Le Coultre and not use that pick but to be truthful I don’t expect them to be selecting much lower in next years import draft. According to the article Lecoultre was much better later in the season, which is comical because the defense was poor last year even after adding a 19 year old and 20 year old midseason. It said he had a strong playoffs...I know plus minus is not the be all and end all but -9 over 12 games is not good by any standard. Nothing but the usual propaganda from the state run media to paint a cheery picture of the franchise. Everyone rejoice that we're passing on a high Euro pick to bring back this big star defenceman - yay!

When do they release the list of big name players they've attracted with their new rink?

When do they release the list of big name players they've attracted with their new rink? Certainly makes the articles that came out about how the new building will help with recruiting look incredibly silly when the draft that involves the biggest amount of recruiting you pass up the opportunity to take a high end player. For the most part in the midget draft they were smart and took BPA and not much in terms of risky players that needed convincing. If they were picking in the 40's or later this move would have been fine but with such a high pick its just a complete waste. Did they lose all of their euro contacts when Shannon left or is this really about Rumble fighting for Le Coultre to stay? If so Rumble needs to go.

I was very optimistic 18 months ago when they did their big fire sale, I thought they were giving up this pipe dream of being "good every year" and were going to try and build a winner like SJ, Halifax and...Bathurst have done...but starting last June they have been taking one step forward and one step back... They started with 3 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders, then made the Grametbauer deal, traded back again and drafted Jacques(who did not report and was a throw in in the MacDonald trade)...right now of those 5 picks, Pelletier is the only player they still have. Then the MacDonald trade, which has gone sideways plus overpaying for a 2nd pair guy in Sylvestre...full blown circus instead of having a strong and deep core of 2001 players...

If our D turns out to be as bad as it looks on paper, Rumble may not last the season ...

There's nothing that I watched last year that would convince me that the defense would improve based on coaching. The same players got caught pinching, making risky plays, losing their man over and over again without any change in playing time. One of those players has now been rewarded by using up in impact euro slot. If this team gives up the same scoring chances as last season against Leclerc they are going to allow a ton of goals. They will also likely score a ton of goals too as there should be a plenty of natural progression among the forward group.

If our D turns out to be as bad as it looks on paper, Rumble may not last the season ... Right now it looks like this... Sylvestre-Aspirot Lecoultre-Spence Tucker-Arsenault Vanier Minus: Welsh Miromanov

If our D turns out to be as bad as it looks on paper, Rumble may not last the season ... I wonder whether keeping him has hurt the GM search? Seriously, who wants to inherit a coach who has just come off consecutive bad seasons. They should have tried to poach a guy like Hulton. Obviously it would never happen but what a change in fortunes these two teams have experienced the last few years. Seems to be a steady decline in management since Flynn was fired.

Well with that thinking ... it makes a little more sense to keep Le Coultre compared to drafting a new 17 YO Dman that you don't know how well he'll adapt to the Q game. But I'm not concerned with this year ... more concerned with the following year if that is when we are targeting to contend, and Le Coultre is not going to be part of that.

Rumble had one bad season ... the team he had the previous year had no business winning any games. You are blaming Rumble for the scorched earth rebuild. Last year he did have a poor season. But he did have his team playing well in the playoffs ... Dmen were playing a low risk style and not getting caught. But why weren't we doing that all year ... especially after we went on a cycle of losing ? That sort of tells me that he didn't have the respect of the players all season. Maybe Hepditch should go ... after all he was a Dman here that got moved to forward and became a 4th line energy guy. Is he the right guy to run our D ? I know that ultimately all failures fall on the Head Coach ... but supporting staff can be critical.

The second half of 2016/17 they were absolutely horrid ... yes, the talent level was low, but they ran around the ice looking like a bad peewee team - coverage in our zone was atrocious ... and IMO, that is on coaching - you don't need to have highly skilled players to know that three men can't be below the goal line with no one in front, or that all five guys can't be on the left boards battling for the puck at the same time. So while 2016/17 falls mainly on Shannon, I don't think Rumble gets off blame free either - we were going to be bad no matter what, but we didn't have to be THAT bad ... and considering we picked up where we left off defensively in 2017/18, that further supports that coaching is an issue.

Last year they had one of the older teams in the Q...only one 16 year old and a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds, then they got older at midseason(Phelan Miromanov Sylvestre) and they actually got worse defensively. They did do better in the playoffs vs a young Rimouski team, but it does not erase a whole season of poor structure. The fact that he couldn't find a spot to get Bellamy minutes in favor of Arsenault, Weiringa and Auger is mind boggling...that was the last straw for me.
