I wonder whether keeping him has hurt the GM search? Seriously, who wants to inherit a coach who has just come off consecutive bad seasons. They should have tried to poach a guy like Hulton. Obviously it would never happen but what a change in fortunes these two teams have experienced the last few years. Seems to be a steady decline in management since Flynn was fired. Rumble had one bad season ... the team he had the previous year had no business winning any games. You are blaming Rumble for the scorched earth rebuild. Last year he did have a poor season. But he did have his team playing well in the playoffs ... Dmen were playing a low risk style and not getting caught. But why weren't we doing that all year ... especially after we went on a cycle of losing ? That sort of tells me that he didn't have the respect of the players all season. Maybe Hepditch should go ... after all he was a Dman here that got moved to forward and became a 4th line energy guy. Is he the right guy to run our D ? I know that ultimately all failures fall on the Head Coach ... but supporting staff can be critical. I agree that it's unfair to blame him for the historically bad year. Nonetheless he was still the coach so he has still come off back to back bad seasons. The cats have had two different assistants I think that were in charge of the D the last two years and there has been no real difference in quality of play. Either they are hiring bad assistants or their style of play is just not working. Both of those reflect poorly on Rumble. I'm legitimately wondering because I can't remember but have any of the Wildcat teams under Rumble been good defensively? They rode Garland to the Semis but I don't really remember how they were outside of him

They rode Garland to the Semis but I don't really remember how they were outside of him I don't know if there's much point in assessing the play of the defense in 16-17, that defense was possibly the worst ever iced on a QMJHL team. It was filled with guys who would be average junior A defenseman & Macintyre playing 30+ minutes a night as a guy who should be a 4-5. The team played probably 90% of every game in the 2nd half being dominated because they couldn't maintain any offensive pressure. You couldn't convince me there was a coach that could have made a difference. Last season is fair game though. No reason the defensive play should be horrible with a quality top 4. For this year Aspirot & Sylvestre are top 4 guys are most teams, with Aspirot the guy with the highest ceiling. Le Coultre should be a 5-6 at best, Tucker & Arsenault I'm not sure are QMJHL caliber defenseman barring a massive improvement. I have low expectations for Vanier. Spence could end up being the 3rd best defenseman on this team easily.

I understand Imports can’t be traded until they’ve played one season.
Does the same rule exist if the player doesn’t report and their rights are traded?
Makes me wonder if there’s a player they want but they know he won’t be available at 13. They convince one of the Q teams ahead of them to pick that player knowing he won’t report. Trade Le Coultre plus other pieces to Team X for the rights to X player.

Seems like they kind of blamed the assistant coaches

Judging by last season, he was in over his head...they had an older group with only Tucker at 17(well, also Bellamy but they kept him in the press box then traded him...arrgghhh) and it looked like a dumpster fire most of the season.

I though he was a D in the Q and AUS Hepditch was a utility guy - started out as a D, switched to forward, but would occasionally bounce back for a few games if injuries hit, or even a few shifts if injuries or penalties were a problem mid-game. Think he played mostly forward at UNB, but played the odd shift on defense for the same reasons. Not that it really matters - there are plenty of coaches who look after positions other than the one they used to play. Rumble is a former NHL d-man - and yet his teams are known for wide open style of play ... pretty sure Danny Flynn was a forward when he played, and he has done as good a job developing d-men as any coach around. Hepditch may or may not be any good at coaching defense - but it has very little to do with his playing career one way or another.

I agree it sucks not picking as there's a decent chance you could upgrade but jesus you can't do anything about it so either move on and keep watching good hockey... or don't.... 20 fans on a message boards whining all the time and deciding not to go anymore isn't going to affect anything with all of the many more fans this centre is going to attract
Now a scenario which was mentioned previously which I keyed in on was that Shannon being fired may have affected some connections in Europe and they were not able to effectively Target and talk to a player to convince to come here in time. Ritchie and Co. were likely putting a lot of focus on the Q draft and other pieces. They may have targeted a few guys in EU there but they feel that they do not see the potential and upgrade over Lecoultre and Khovanov. That's the thing is you guys have no sweet clue what's available over there and who is willing to report to the wildcats, so I don't know why some people would be pretending to know we would get something better? History shows at that high of a pick, yes, but we still have no idea and with the little time this new regime has to prepare it's likely they were not confident going into this thing they could get and convince guy who could develop into a solid puck moving dman
As mentioned before the WC are looking to be stronger this season and right now Lecoultre is their only puck moving Dman over Spence. Spence will be a hell of a player in this league at 18 and 19 but it will take an adjustment this season at 17. So really you only have one veteran puck-moving D in Le Coultre who will be getting more ice time and confidence, which helps in development. Either you take the risk and play with what you have and hope that Le Coultre reaches his potential or .... You could shop around the league for a Dman but it is likely the WC do not want to spend too many assets on acquiring a puck-moving Dman
Play the cards you're dealt

Ritchie was at the U17 and U18 tournaments I believe and scouted Euros, plus most of the work that teams do is with agents nowadays. Moncton has not had any issues getting players to come except for one Russian I believe. From what I heard Rumble pounded the table to keep Lecoultre and that's why they did it. I would rather lose 5 more games next year to grab a younger player and aim high for 19-20 after Halifax has their run as host. If they want a puck moving d-man they can likely find a free agent some where or an overager for a mid round pick who will be as good or better than SL.

A guy like Flynn had buckets of Coaching experience though ... something Hepditch is lacking, and he can't fall back on his experience as a Dman because he wasn't very good at it. It all still falls on Rumble as Head Coach .. he needs to teach his Coaches on how he wants things done.

I'm not going to say that he's had a great defence corps at any point during his tenure because he definitely has not. He doesn't do anything to help alleviate that though.
