I like L'Italien a lot but a 2nd rd pick is more reasonable plus maybe a goalie prospect

Noticed yesterday that Matthew Vachon is doing a mock draft. Starting with picks 13-18.
He has the Wildcats selecting Dartmouth defenseman Ben Roode. He is ranked 22nd by QMJHL Central Scouting and 40th by HockeyProspect.com.
6'4", 196 pounds. Right shot.

I like the idea of drafting a d-man in round 1, but the player has to be worth the pick and not a reach.

There’s a chance he’s available at 27 but I don’t risk it. The key is holding on to the 18th overall pick. I’ve heard from two sources that it’s been traded. The rumoured return is quite favourable though.

If Bathurst wins Sunday, I expect the Irving Jealousy Meter to be at an all-time high.

That would give Moncton 3 picks in this year’s 2nd round.

Hope he can handle his 4 minutes every three games behind Jacob 'Merit System' Arsenault.

What's the rumoured return ? 2018 & 2019 2nd round picks. That would give Moncton 3 picks in this year’s 2nd round. I don't really see the point of doing that unless they are only going back 3-4 picks. The big advantage a late 1st has over an early 2nd if that you can gamble on an NCAA destined kid and still get a compensatory pick if he doesn't show up.

Who needs skilled, mobile d-men when you can have a bunch of "chip it off the glass and out" guys?

You get a merit point for a successful chip out, 10 points if you hit the opposing D at the blue line and 1000 bonus points when they float one in from 60 feet on Matthew Waite.

I highly doubt you'll be seeing those two in Moncton in 2018/2019. The Waite trade has already been talked about on another thread. As for Arsenault, I don't see room for him once their new draft picks and free agents are announced.

Understandably they will likely play a minor role in the draft but you would assume that you would want one in place so that their vision of the teams future can help guide them in what they do during this period.
