Is there any rumours/news regarding the new GM position ? Seems very weird that there is no mention of candidates or rumours yet ?
Seems strange that in a year where the cup is in the Q that the Wildcats don’t have a GM in place yet, they have a good team with some holes to fill but with some luck could make a run.

They have interviewd...
* Troy Dumville * Paul Currie * Greg Royce
....plus the guy who ran the draft. There are probably more guys than that, but that’s all i know.

I've been told Troy Dumville doesn't want to work for Irving. You can scratch his name off the list. Irving reached out to one of Rouyn-Noranda's Assistant General Manager's. Rumour has it he declined by telling him (Irving) "you don't know how to build a winner."

Spent last season as the European Scout for the New Jersey Devils. He's been an amateur scout for Nashville, Phoenix and Ottawa. He was the Director of Amateur Scouting for Buffalo for 3 years.

What is exactly Roger Shannon's function with the Wildcats?
There is an article in the Northern Light about bringing the Mem Cup to Fredericton to SHannon so that he can take a family picture with it. In the same article, it says that Shannon still has one year to go on the WCs payroll and that he would like to be associated part time in a function jointly with Sly.... This looks awfully like a job search....

He says that he missed the opportunity with Shawinigan in 2012 because Gord Donnelly broke the Cup and it was sent for repair before he could take the picture.

Couturier is an old buddy of Shannon's and was in Fredericton for a hockey camp with the Cup in tow ... Shannon took the opportunity to have his picture taken with the cup since he apparently missed his opportunity when Shawinigan won after the cup was damaged. Because Shannon loves attention, the photo op was shared with local media, who asked him questions on his future. He is still under contract to the Cats, but indicated he would love to get back into hockey when he can, and that he would love to work with his old buddy Sly again if the chance arose.

He can come into Bathurst and work for a year and then bump Sly out of the GM duties ... like he did here.

Why are you reading more into it ?

He can come into Bathurst and work for a year and then bump Sly out of the GM duties ... like he did here. It sounds like he is still under contract to the Cats and being paid by them ... and would need permission from the Cats to take a job with another team. If Shannon wanted to take a job with another team, he goes to Irving and attempts to negotiate a release from his contract. Irving could say no, and keep paying him (for instance if he felt Shannon knew too much sensitive info about the Cats plans, and just doesn't want him working elsewhere). Or he could agree to terminate the contract, Shannon is off the Cats payroll, and take a job elsewhere. Or, if the new job comes with less salary than he was earning (for example, a scouting job), they attempt to negotiate a fair buy-out of the remainder of his contract - Shannon gets some portion of the remaining monies owed to him, the Cats save a few bucks by not having to pay him his full salary.

Shannon in an assistant GM Role would be far more effective. He was successful in getting Khovanov here with a ton of persistant work..he seems to have some contacts in the hockey world & by all accounts is well liked by the players. Through all the poor decisions he made we never heard any leaks or rumors about conflict with the players.
Having a guy above him to filter through his ideas and not be in charge of making trades would get the most use of his skillset.
