2018 Pre-Season Thread

Training camp opens August 15th. First exhibition game is August 19th against the Islanders in Cornwall. 


I'll start off by reviewing our free agents. 

Griffin McGregor: Tenacious, likes to get under the skin of opponents. Was at Gatineau's camp last season. He was given a 5 game suspension for running a goalie in a pre-season game. Would have to serve those 5 games if he cracks Moncton's roster.

Cameron Scrivens: Offensive player. Slightly lanky. Has a strong interest in college hockey. Loves scrambled eggs.

Keanan Stewart: Big, strong forward. Should battle for a spot on the 3rd or 4th line.

Antoine Chalifour: Don't much anything about him. Played Quebec Juvenile for Triolet last season.

I expect a few more to be added before the start of training camp. Preferably defensemen who can compete for the 5/6 spots.

Will Moncton try to pick up PO Joseph from Charlettown and make a run or wait and see , because prices will go up as soon as the season starts. The asking price for Dobson just keeps going up with his play at the WJHC showcase

I'd love to have PO Joseph. The price would likely start with Bathurst's 2019 1st round pick. IMO, that should be off limits.

I think it would be VERY dumb for Moncton to go all in this year. VERY dumb. I think they would be better off selling a few vets and loading up for 19-20 and 20-21.

In terms of the big picture, probably the best time to have this injury. 6 weeks means he would miss 2 games.

Never great to pick up an injury but as you said it's not the end of the world from a Cats perspective in terms of timing. Season starts in exactly six weeks so with any luck it's possible he doesn't miss any time at all.

If there's any concern it's that he ended last season injured and is starting this season injured as well. Overall though he was pretty durable last season so it shouldn't be a massive worry at this point.

With his size and the style he plays, it's not a surprise that he gets banged up.

He's rated #22 on that list and #11 on the list is Mike Higgins who we drafted 2 years ago. We should try and convince him to report too.
