Not sure about that. Save percentage of .829 and .875 in previous years before he finally hit .900 last year in Junior B? Even on bad teams, good goalies should be hitting .900

Agree on Khovanov - he is probably already in town, and looking for a bit of ice time. Where last season was derailed for health reasons, he is probably eager to hit the ice this season.

To me, no surprises in the vets that are in camp early - with the exception of Khovanov likely just looking for ice, the rest are bubble guys whose jobs could be on the line. The guys you list above as locks (along with MacDonald and Khovanov) are all no brainers.

Not in camp: Jack Grant, Clark Webster, Mark Hillier, all of whom still have NCAA eligibility, Josh Nicholson, Brodie MacArthur, Griffin McGregor, Cameron Scrivens (maybe he is only coming next week?) ...

No major surprises in the guys not in camp, Hillier is a bit disappointing, but not the end of the world.

He would have been hard pressed to make the team this year ... given that, probably not a bad idea for him to keep his options open for another year. He may come to the realization that players drafted in the 4th round of the Q draft generally don't have NCAA D1 schools beating down their doors to offer full scholarships ...

Well he's not old enough to play NCAA hockey. So deciding to protect his eligibility to keep his options open is completely different from actually playing NCAA. He would only be getting 4th line ice time here. Can revisit this one next year or at least until he commits to a school.

He can but, usually NL players that opt for NCAA don't usually change their mind.

Usually, those that take this approach will go to camp and stay 48 hours unless they get certain guarantees. Hillier not showing up tells me he's made a concrete decision. He can always change his mind, but a lot of kids don't.
