I would like to see them move 3-4 big names and build for 2020 and 2021. As you said they have a strong core of 16 year olds. Get some 16 and 17 year olds in those deals or even as futures at the draft. wildcats have had a hard time winning in trades the past few years. trading away our best players is a terrible idea. they are exciting now and young. maybe add a faceoff guy would be nice though. if it was up to you, we would be always rebuilding and that way you could complain everyday about how bad the team is. now that they are doing well, you have nothing to add. go to sleep. GO CATS GO

GO CATS GO If you read the board you could see that I wanted a proper rebuild. They did that in 16-17, but then screwed it up by wasting picks and making horrible trades(MacDonald, Bellamy and Sylvestre) as a shortcut instead of having a core of 10-12 2011 and 2012 born players with a few 2010 as veterans. Imagine the defense the next 2 years with Spence Bellamy and Jacques. They have been very good at drafting since Richie took over, but a lot of those picks/kids were traded away the last 18 months for shortcuts. They missed out on a top 5 pick due to the MacDonald trade. They started June 2017 with a boatload of early picks in 17 and 18 and now only have about half of them left.

Sunday’s game was one of the best Wildcats game I have seen in a long time. They showed really great character to come back and get the win. First period was infuriating because of Starzomski. Aspirot lost his shit, with good reason I thought. He made a good hit on a Riki player, and Bowman took a run at him. At the last second, Aspirot spun off the hit but if Bowman would have connected, Aspirot would have been hurt-no question. He spent the next couple of shifts trying to put a big hit on Riki, and when he did hit someone(it was a borderline hit) he got a penalty, and then the extra 2 for yapping at the call. He went and talked to the ref after he got out of the box, and I’m sure the conversation was about the no call on Bowman. Starzomski also let a Riki player cross check Khavanov 3 times in the back with no call, but called Khavanov when he slashed the player on the thigh as he was skating away. All this to say that I was glad that tempers were cooled during the first period intermission, mine included. Reffing was equally bad/fair the rest of the way. Can’t say enough good things about Desnoyers. He did all the work on the boards to setup the fourth? goal. The kids a beast on the boards already at 16-a future Jerome Samson? For the love of God, don’t trade Pelletier, Desnoyers, Spence, or Lavallee at Christmas. This is our core to build around. Don’t f*** with it I would like to see them move 3-4 big names and build for 2020 and 2021. As you said they have a strong core of 16 year olds. Get some 16 and 17 year olds in those deals or even as futures at the draft. This year's team is good enough to make it to the semi-finals. If that actually happens remains to be seen. With that said, I'm not moving any big names. Maybe Capannelli and Seitz if the offers is right. Aspirot, Cyr and McKenna should be our overagers for 2019/2020.

If you want to go for it next year and the one after, you can usually get a lot for a guy like McKenna and Aspirot possibly...go get a 1st, very good young player, plus an OA as futures, makes it a win win. Keep Cyr as contenders are unlikely to overpay.

Exactly, Sylvestre is worth less than half what they paid for him 10 months ago, not a good use of assets.

That's not happening without McKenna and Aspirot.

Our over-agers will arguably be the best in the league next year, and adding a high-end euro + possible lottery player will make this roster quite formidable in 2019-2020. With natural progression and a deep playoff, this team should be a top contender come next season.

Let's hope an expansion of lines is on the horizon this season and not a repeat of years past that just drives the top 2 lines into the ground game after game. Why can't the young guys be brought along for experience and progression when we've got a substantial lead? How many times have we seen the wheels start falling off after the top lines start to falter from exhaustion midway through the game while the other half of the squad grows stale sitting on the bench? Consistently good goaltending has made all the difference this season, perhaps this safety net will allow the coaches to release their death grip dependence on the same 10 players game in and game out.

Standing pat gets you around mid pack the next 2+ years, possibly as high as 6th or 7th overall, but that won't win you a championship. Halifax, St.John and Bathurst have shown how to win championships the last 8-10 years but the Wildcats refuse to follow the formula.

Desnoyers and Spence are getting regular minutes in the top half of the lineup. Fournier may have been better served playing another year MAAA, not sure he is ready for bigger minutes, he doesn't look bad but not highly creative. Guys like Foreman and King are role players in the mold of 5-10 years ago.

Agree on Desnoyers and Spence, but I also agree with his point that the coaching staff ride the 10 skaters ... just happens that those two young guys have forced their way into those top 10 guys ... some of the "role players", if properly developed, could grow into key roles either later in the season if opportunities present, or in a future year ... obviously not all of them, but some ... but they aren't going to develop much playing a handful of shifts per game. Rumble and staff have not shown much ability to develop players so far, and I think his point is a valid one ...

I agree with tufguy, can you tell me any trades in the last 8 - 10 years that Moncton has done well with ? Because every time moncton trades we seem to overpay !
Captain Obvious you are always calling out moncton on stupid trades or bad draft selections but you want moncton to trade some of our best players McKenna and Aspirot and think that we will come out ahead , moncton has a horrible draft and trade record !!! ( I agree with you on moncton’s horrible drafting and trading record ) and we don’t have a GM yet .
I think we have a really good team this year ( I know it’s early ) but we are deep up front , our D is mobile ( could use a # 3 or 4 , but who couldn’t ) , goaltending so far has been solid , My only concern is we need a veteran faceoff guy, but trade for them now before the price goes up and don’t trade away the farm and go after a big name like we usually do. Team Chemistry seems stronger this year and that is a major factor come playoff time , as long as moncton is healthy we should go deep in the playoffs ! Go Cats

McKenna is a top 5 forward in the league next season, trading him makes no sense when you'd have to turn around and use those assets to try and replace him. There won't be anyone like him on the market next season. Go look at the top 20 scorers in the league right now, none of those guys are available for next season. They are either going pro or are on teams like Rimouski/RN/Cap who can contend next season. They won't be able to acquire a star player like McKenna. Aspirot even more so is important because the team defense is the weakest point. If you move him next years defense is Spence/DeJong & ?? Defenseman are expensive to aquire. I'd rather them keep it simple, see if you could potentially find a team that would be willing to flip a defenseman to the cats for a forward (even if its a futures deal). No need to tear down whats already been built. No issue with them moving some of the veterans like Capannelli & Seitz for picks/prospects. The Bathurst pick has huge value barring a ridiculous offer should be kept as Bathurst is likely dismantling most of their team with Dobson gone and Christmas and rumors of others.

I agree with you that Rumble coaches too much to win every game like a game 7 and not enough minutes to develop other players. To be fair some of the players have/had limited upside, but a glaring example of mismanagement was Bellamy. He gave minutes to Weiringa Auger Arsenault etc, all guys currently NOT playing major junior(that I can tell). I'm not sold on the upside of King, Stewart and Foreman, however Fournier could be a very good player, Stewart(on D) has shown decent ability, same for Lavallee in nets on top of the two guys that are playing like veterans.
