Saint John will have to decide on which import they drop/move before the import draft. So we won't have the option of drafting one and having him not show up, and using Prikryl as a Plan B. SJ probably drops/trades Prikryl before the Import draft. Prikryl was a 17 Yr old on a very young team ... put up 14 g and 17 a and was 5th in scoring for SJ. He only had 3 goals and 10 pts in the first half and then really picked it up after Xmas ... the typical acclimatization period. He might be a better option than what we get at 25-27th pick ... or not. But we don't have to give up any assets to draft a new kid. It might be worth a 2nd+ to know what you are getting for a player and is acclimated to the league already.
That would seem to be a lot for a player that they can't keep ... and may have to put out on waivers.

I get what you are saying with tongue in cheek ... cough Safin cough ... But when the option is to use your free import pick(s) that you can't trade, or use a regular pick to acquire an import, less teams are interested in not using their import pick.

I'd rather roll the dice on the Euro draft than pay a 2nd for Prykryl. if you draft a kid that doesn't make an impact, you can always trade that pick(or another) to get a veteran at midseason. AA cost a 3rd, Ivan cost a 2nd.

If you are a team that needs two new euros for next season, and don't have a great track record of drafting them, offering a pick of some sort for a Prykryl-type might make more sense.

It would all depend on what the price is for Prikryl. If the next day SJ has to put him on waivers, then they are more inclined to take a 4th ... but a week before they have to put him on waivers they are holding out for a 3rd minimum.
I don't have a lot of faith in our staff to hit it big from the 25-27 draft spot.

I don't think the odds are that high of adding somebody better. 2 years of Prikryl for a 2nd or 3rd sounds a lot better than the price we paid for the guys the Cats added at the deadline this year.

If the price is a 2nd then I take my chances at the Import draft. Did you see what we got for a 2nd at the last midget draft ?

Serious question... if Saint John can't get an asset for Prikyl assuming they intend to drop him does the kid not go back into the Euro draft? You could theoretically then take him with your euro pick no?

Plus, is Prikryl actually tradable before the next import draft, or is it after the Import draft, because in theory, that's when one year is up. I'm thinking back to the issue PEI had 4 or 5 years ago.

Torchetti wasn't part of our staff until this year, I'd imagine he should have some good contacts given his NHL experience.

I watched what Thibeau did though in the GM chair and wasn't impressed, and he is still very much in the mix.
