We have the ammo to do it, but i don't know if it makes sense in terms of timing. Why it wouldn't? With the bunch of young guys SJ has they clearly move some picks for a guy like Mercer that will play the next 2 years and maybe play at 20. If there is a spot where SJ has a lack it's in the 2001 core. I could see Sibley as an OA, but Wilson and Macintosh I'm not sure.

Paying huge for Mercer would be great, but our D is not up to that cycle (our top 4 will be 17 and 18 next year). Getting a couple of top OA takes pressure off them, but doesn't fix that we will have a very young D. That being said, if Drummondville gave us a discount, we would definitely be interested.

Could SJ be negotiating for Mercer? Last year's 16's are untouchable so it would have to be draft picks if that was the case.

Just looked at this thread today and this to me is the best starting point to jump in. Do I think Mercer is a target no, but it would make a load of sense. Before I go any further it’s just stupid to say if he’s at a discount SJ would be interested, wrong if he’s at a discount almost every team would be interested. Now why this trade would make sense. He will only be 18 next year and is already a PPG guy. You get 2 years out of him and at 19 he could be a top 10 point getter in the league. Now if Roy is as good as advertised he might only be a 2 year guy too. So if you can get Mercer now sure it won’t be cheap but the amount of picks you guys have it could be done. Another thing I’m going to throw out there is it known that the team is looking for a forward in the Euro draft? The way your team is lined up I think a defencemen might make more sense. Just with the 6th pick you should be able to get a highly touted forward I know but looking at the needs and room I think a Euro defencemen might be a better move.

Roy isn’t being touted as a 2 year guy though, it’s not to say he can’t develop into one but I’m pretty confident in saying you’re getting a minimum of 3 years out of him.

Now that the Gatorade challenge and Telus cup are over has the draft order changed at all? If you look at points only it appears that Joshua Roy had a half decent tournament. I didn't see any games or really haven't seen any head lines from the tournament so I can't comment on his play. Robidas was MVP of the Telus cup and his team lost in the gold medal game. I watched a bit of the game last night and Robidas is skilled but small. I am not sure if we need anymore skilled small forwards at this time.

After watching Skubel for 3 games of a playoff series, you'd enjoy him around your young core. Perfect OA for you guys. Big, physical, high compete level, can play with the skilled guys. Definitely can get under someones skin from my look in the stands.

Quebec Blue were the better team, but Roy drove his line for sure. L'heureux was also very good for Blue. Thought Malatesta was just ok. As for the Atlantic kids, Whynot, Dean, MacDonald, Melanson, and Huckins were all as advertised. None of them dominated, but certainly were very noticeable. Recent BU commit Ryan Greene also showed flashes for NL.
