Interesting article from Acadie Nouvelle's Robert Lagace. It can be found here. It talks about Cloutier, Loshing, Hopkins, Rozzi, Iasenza, Casey and Katz as being a huge part of the rebuild. Cam Lund plans to be at camp with the intention of making the team. 2019 American draft pick Colin Ronan plans to be at camp too. He was teammates with Lund at Cushing Academy. I think there's a good chance Nolan Hayes comes too. Another Cushing Academy player. The plan is to select at least one 19 year old forward in the Import Draft. Maybe two. Two noteworthy free agents have been confirmed for camp. Ritchie Thibeau feels the forward will play top 9 and the defenseman will play top 4. The organization is still in discussions with Daniel Lacroix. Colin Ronan isn’t even listed on the pre-season roster. That must be a mistake. Based on the article it seems like Loshing, Hopkins and Rozzi will all have spots on the roster. I’d assume they would keep 4 16 year olds if Lund wants to stay. I wonder whether the Prep School kids Moncton drafted all plan to go back to the US next year or will be staying home because of COVID. They could have dropped him from the protected list then invited him to camp. Camp invites have not yet shown up on Q rosters.

How much are you willing to pay me to drop the names? Any free agents with a guaranteed spot likely won't be added until mid July.

In terms of the Euros, I hope they grab the best talent they can get, ideally it would be a 17 year old with upside but drafting that late, there may not be any left. If they can get a good 19 year old, nothing wrong with that, they likely have high Euro picks in 2021 and 2022. I like the idea of an 18 and 19 YO. Next year when we are much lower in the standings, we can add a higher end 17 YO, and again the following year.

There's an '04 Russian by the name of Matvei Michkov who is being labelled as the next Ovechkin. He's a late 04 so he's not eligible for the NHL Draft until 2023. 109 points in 26 games in the Russian U16 league last season. A little premature, but not a bad piece to add the team....

It’s a long ways away but you don’t generally pry a talent that good away from the KHL. If he continues to progress as expected, the KHL won’t let a player like that get out of their grasp to come to the CHL.

You say that, but another high end '04 from Russia, Ivan Miroshnichenko, has already signed with Muskegon of the USHL. He wants to follow the same path to the NHL as Andrei Svechnikov.

I’m not saying it can’t or won’t happen, we see it often enough to know that it does. I just don’t ever count on those extremely high end Russian forwards to come across the pond.

You’d have to think that Olson has a great chance to crack the roster. Two of the three were drafted in the 2019 OHL u18 draft, Olson picked third overall.

Anytime I see the name Vachon I automatically think he is a goaltender (this guy is not). I was a big Rogie Vachon fan when I was a kid.

While these young guys could become very good players in the Q, the OHL U18 draft is for players who slipped through their first year of OHL draft eligibility, but teams thought could deserve a shot in the league. Teams are allowed two player selections and one optional goalie selection.

Yeah, they were seemingly let go by their OHL teams after 1 year so I don’t have huge expectations, but based on what Moncton is returning next year that pretty much means that some FAs will still likely play top 9 and top 4.

Expect an American free agent to be added to Moncton's preseason roster this week. He has an NCAA committment with Quinnipiac.
