was ranked 6th overall by general scouting and fell to 14, could be a steal! Looks like they are building out a championship defence, with Morin, Grenier and Gendron you have your future top 3, plus Iasenza should be a solid 4 as a 20 year old in 3 seasons. At least for now, it appears to be a case where they traded up a took a quality guy vs trading up to pick someone off the board. Have to wonder though how good Eli ends up being, because in theory he'd be a big part of that future as well. Some thoughts: - love building through the back end … our championship teams have been built through dominant defence corps, and we are hopefully setting the stage for our next run. - generally not a fan of trading up - drafts are crap shoots, and generally I think you are better off getting multiple prospects rather than giving up picks to move up and focus on one player. There can be times where moving up pays off - but for every time it works, there are probably 3 that it doesn’t … let’s hope Gendron is a case where it does. - not sure what to make of Baillargeon being included … presumably Shawinigan specifically asked for him. I am inclined to think we are selling high on a guy who boosted his stock with big stats playing midget AAA at 16 … and I think you always have to be careful in projecting into the Q based on a guy dominating midget as an older player. Is he a late blooming future star, or the mid-round calibre player he was perceived as when he was drafted? Time will tell … Wildcats do not appear to have a lot of openings for young forwards next season, so perhaps that was a factor in their willingness to include him.

Wildcats traded Eli Baillargeon, 22nd overall and 43rd overall to Shawinigan for 14th overall. Adam Fortier-Gendron is a Wildcat! Wow! That is extremely steep to move up 8 spots. Not really a steep price. Essentially a 2nd, 3rd and 5th when some teams were paying a 2023 1st to move up.

Jonathan Aspirot type defenseman. Much better skater but I can see the comparison style wise.

There was a time where I would have been really upset with this trade but I’m done getting too rattled when prospects are traded. This is a trade we will re-visit down the road.
In general, I’m not a fan of moving up in the draft. If I’m throwing a bunch of darts at a board I’d rather have more darts to throw than sacrificing 3 darts to move up 8 inches but we’ll leave it up to the pros.
Definitely exciting to have 3 promising prospects on the back end. Hopefully they can develop as projected and maybe we have our next Savard/Gormley/Barberio trio.

I'm a bit concerned that this is the 2nd time they look at moving Baillageron(Belgrade trade that fell apart), they must not see him as a top 6 QMJHL forward.
In terms of the current roster/depth chart, they have a nice skill level and depth on defense, they also have solid mid lineup guys up front but need more high end skill outside of Loshing who is hurt a lot. Maybe a couple of forwards with size. I would like to see more from Filion, this is a huge year for him.

I’d rather have 3 chance at getting a good player than one, especially since it was all done to move up just 8 spots. Also, he played on the same team as Lavoie (#1 pick) so you have to wonder if he was sheltered from the top match ups.

He had a phenomenal playoffs but not a great regular season, I think he’s a solid prospect and there’s a reason teams are asking for him in deals but he’s no lock/slam dunk to be a top 6 forward.

Today’s a big day. The Cats still have a 2nd and a 3rd. Hopefully they aren’t wasted away on guys that never report like in 2020.

Craig Eagles seems really high on him based on his draft profile …

Craig Eagles seems really high on him based on his draft profile … Seems more raw than the 1st rounder but a lot of upside, will be interesting if they see him as a C or LW.
