I hope this isn't too early but this board has been too quiet as of late.
Loshing – Labelle (20) – Auger
Taibel – Mercier – Barbashev
Mueller – 20 Via Trade – Daniel
Lounsbury – Casey - Baillergeon
Extras – MacPhee, Sarrasin, 2022 2nd
Morin – Grenier
Pilote – Dollemont
Iasenza – Hamel (20)
Extra - Richards, FA
Filion
Flemming/Thompson
- Taibel's game has really improved since the 2nd half kicked off. He has earned another season IMO.
- Regarding the 20 year centre on the 3rd line - I'm looking at Patrick Leblanc from Charlottetown. I can't see the price being expensive.

Do you think they cut Langlois and Olson?

Leblanc would be a nice add but he's played extremely well lately. I would expect he would cost a 2nd at least.. as the Isles have many options available for 20's and could easily keep him and trade others with more value

I don't think the Cats should be trading for 20's anyway. I'd be very annoyed if they moved a 2nd for a 20 next year.
I know some people wanted some of the 19's moved at the trade period but to me if the offers weren't great it came with an added bonus of not needing to move more picks for 20's.
We already have 4 options, and my preference would be Labelle, Langlois (unless hes not coming back?) & Hamel. I prefer Hamels mobility and physicality to Olson. Olson is too turnover prone. Hamel is one of those guys you love to have in a 7 game series wearing down the opponent.
The team does suck at faceoffs though, so finding a way to add someone who can do that would be good.
The defense to me looks pretty solid, I'd love to see Grenier get a couple games before the year is over.
I dont think much has been said about him but how good has Loshing been? Kid is on pace for a 30 goal season at 17 and has an unbelievable shot. Just needs to stay healthy. Labelle and Auger feeding him on the top line next year and he could get 40.
Auger was also quite a steal. Getting a top 6 FW that late in the draft is how they needed to make up for the lack of assets.

Unless they have no good Euro options I would shop Barabshev and try and get a 1st round pick or very good 2005 or 2006 player and draft a new Euro in June. Taibel has had better moments, but I'm not yet sold on him, he needs to have a strong finish.
With the standings so tight and some teams making big additions, they could drop to around 11-12th and get a top 20-25 Euro pick, pretty hard to pass up.

Do you think they cut Langlois and Olson? Regarding Langlois - He's away for personal reasons and I don't know if we will see him back this season. So I doubt he's back as a 20. My reasons for keeping Hamel over Olson are exactly what Lirette said. If we don't trade for a 20 year old forward, another option would be a good 19 year old who will be back in 2023/2024 as an overager.

Usually that's related to an illness in the family, wouldn't preclude him from returning in 6 months.

It could be a whole bunch of things - and WhiteTy often knows the behind scenes info beyond what can be publicly shared on the boards. If he says he may not be back next year, I would be inclined to believe him ...

They have some good young players but will need a lot of pieces to contend in 2022-23 or 2023-24. Not enough impact talent.

A consideration.... the CHL said more info regarding the import draft will be forthcoming because of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and Belarus. Maybe Barbashev isn’t coming back.

I would be surprised, he spent a lot of time in St.Louis with his brother, I think if he is drafted he will be back in the Q.

It is certainly not far fetched to suggest that travel to and from Russia will be restricted, with regards to work permits and student visas and such. Perhaps some Russian players will choose to stay in North America this offseason in an attempt to mitigate these risks - that will obviously be dependant on family situations and such. Perhaps Max ends up spending the summer in the US with Ivan, and perhaps that makes it easier for him to return to Moncton in the Fall - but definitely a ton of uncertainty. This is not something the CHL will have any control over - if the government decides to tighten the screws on Russian travel to Canada, the least of their worries will be the impact on junior hockey.

That makes sense, wonder if the CHL makes provisions in the summer to let teams with Russians draft another Euro in case?
