Were you there? Do you know what he said? I hear these kids (let’s not forget they are kids) chirp each other all game long. We don’t know what was said but the problem with the broad definition of discriminatory language it makes people think the worst while it could have been something quite mild - everything in todays world is “offensive”.Calling the KID a major douche could be construed in the exact same manner no? He got 5 games, clearly what he said was pretty bad. As for your highlighted part, go sit down. Hate speech isn't just, "offensive", it perpetuates attitudes and stereotypes that do real harm to the communities it targets. Based on the highlighted part alone I can guess you're a cis-het white dude who has never been the target of hate speech. Ironically, me pointing that out is likely to draw more "offense" than anything you accuse others of.

Nobody knows what he said or to whom.
It could have been the Dman who smoked him after the whistle with no call, the forward who shot a puck at him after the whistle with no call or the ref who decided that cheapshotting Burns all game was legal.
Brady screwed up, he will serve his suspension and the team will make him learn why whatever he said is offensive and should not have happened.

That ref hears a lot of foul shit on a daily basis from teenage hockey players, and this was far enough beyond that he took a pretty big step. The whole end of that game was a shit show, and I called out Thurston for being an idiot in the Eagles thread before I even had any clue there was more after. I think they were all being idiots. Thurston annoys me more the longer I watch him. But roughing someone up after the buzzer and getting a penalty for discriminatory taunts are not the same thing and shouldn't be equated. One is a dirty hockey play. The other is not. On the part in bold, I really hope you're right. They interviewed him last night in an intermission and he was very unapologetic and basically seemed to think he'd done nothing wrong. I find it hard to believe that a 20 year old wouldn't know the weight of whatever he said. He isn't a kid anymore.

Looks like the Burns story is way bigger than the trade period this year in SJ. I am very curious to see if any moves are being discussed, it has only been 2 days, but we would have expected some trade rumours. I can’t believe that there is nothing going on.

The goalie market is an interesting one. Lapenna is now a 'pique, and I am struggling to see much of a fit for Hurtubise anywhere.
Sherbrooke made some sense but they just went and got Olivier Adam. Halifax could benefit from an upgrade, but how all-in are they? Would they prefer adding a Cam MacDonald instead? Would SJ even trade with them?
I see his return being pretty small if he gets dealt at all.

MacDonald, Trenholm would be great fits for Halifax imo. Hurtubise too if he is healthy. If they could bury the hatchet and the price isn't too crazy they would make very good trading partners.

Bringing memorial Cup experience in the Halifax locker room would really help. I agree that those two would be great trading partners and it could help each sides at this stage of their own cycle. Anyone knows if one party would even call or answer the phone or whether the hate is too big that both parties would rather live without each other's asset? I am just curious...they definitely spoke last year before the Desnoyers debacle, lol

Hopefully Hurtubise gets one last chance at a playoff run. It's been a difficult year with injuries so trade value could be impacted for sure, but who else would you want in an important game?

Trenholm is unlikely to move because he likely won't fetch his value to the team. Keep in mind that the SJ guys are possible 1.5 year guys.

Whatever was said warranted a statement to be released by Trevor Georgie: The league did what they felt they needed to do, the team did the same. Let it go. Seeing these comments about the kid being a douche bag and other social media comments are equally as bad if not worse. These are kids and most of these posters are “adults”. If the CHL really wants to make a stand maybe they should look at the mental health crisis in front of them as exposed by the poor young player in London. Kids read all sorts of shit written about them by so called adults. Think before you rip a kid to shreds on posts. I’ve been a lurker for years and see comments like this all the time. If u want to talk hockey go for it but leave the attacks on kids out of it. Just my 2 cents. The "kid" is 20 years old, old enough to work full time or own a house...old enough to know better.

While I’ll agree he’s no longer a kid by the definition, these are still kids.. kids old enough to know better in a lot of situations but think back to when you were 20 years old, you probably didn’t make the right decision or the smart decision all the time. I know I didn’t. Now it doesn’t excuse the actions of the player but I think we all get caught up in critiquing a player… it’s one thing if it’s about their play but I try to stay away from personal attacks on a players character because ultimately, the majority of posters here are a lot older and should be more mature/wiser. Take the higher road, it’s easy to criticize the players when you’re on a message board behind a screen name, I think a lot of people wouldn’t have the guts to make the same remarks when face to face with them.

This line of defence is frankly completely ridiculous anyway. My 10 year old cousins know that any comment based on someone's race, orientation, gender, etc. are completely unacceptable. By 16 every kid has had this drilled into them now days, I don't even by that excuse at that age. By 20, you aren't even a kid anymore and that is just a grown man tossing around slurs.
