After watching the Mooseheads blow Game 6 against Quebec and watching yet another Q team celebrate a championship in our building I naturally had a few beers at the Midtown.
I can’t remember his name but I met a player for the SMU Huskies who played for the London Knights and he said the Simons want to make the Mooseheads the London of the Q so I was glad in that I had that to look forward to.
Hiring a coach that had already been fired because he sucked is not a move that any team should make let alone one who has aspirations of being the London of the Q.

Hiring a coach that had already been fired because he sucked is not a move that any team should make let alone one who has aspirations of being the London of the Q. Every CHL franchise wants to be London. Even Halifax can't and won't be. There's too many changes to the financials and how business is done. Halifax used to be able to spend 6 figures to secure the release of a Euro. Thanks to the small markets, that can't happen. London also has a geographic advantage Halifax will never have being where its at. It also doesn't have a cultural barrier to overcome like Q teams have. Simply having a contending team multiple years in a row is as good as it can get for a Q team. Maybe every generation or so that slides into a 3rd contending year but 2 in a row is better then most teams see over a decade and multiple rebuilds.

It's becoming clearer and clearer that the Mooseheads are going to be Sam's team, and Peter has bigger ambitions in the pro sports world.

Well he can take his empty promises to the NHL. This guy has come to Halifax saying he was going to better everything and honestly has done nothing except buy a new t-shirt gun that didnt work very long, and get a blow up for the timbits game, hire a coach that we already fired. Now you watch season tickets will be jacked up next year as well and everyone is stuck with a deposit that they already paid in a rebuilding year. So far this guy has done nothing to better this team, rink or the community. This is about as knee-jerky as it gets. I'm not carrying water for the new owners, but surely you have to give "this guy" more than 13 months before declaring the ownership as a failure. And you're not looking in the right places if you don't think there's been changes in how this team is run pre and post Bobby.

In Mooseheads history there are 3 editions of what I would call contenders for the worst “good” team
2007/2008 2017/2018 2023/2024
What is the common denominator of the last two?
It is disgraceful that Midgeley was rehired and that falls on new ownership!!!

I am sure they were leaning on him with a lot of the early decisions. I guess ultimately it would be the Simons decision.

The only saving grace for Cam re-hiring Midgley, if indeed the coach is the issue with this version of the Mooseheads and I am feeling more and more like it is, would be that Midgley spent time as an a National women's team head coach, coached in Germany, and was an assistant coach with the rangers. There is enough time there for Midgely to have had a growth spurt in coaching tactics and ability as well as to be able to motivate players. I'm sure Cam did his due diligence when hiring him again, but it may be a fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me situation. We'll see.

He really could lose some fan base with what he is doing with ticket pricing. I have been a season ticket member for over a 15 years and I really didnt like the deposit required to secure my seats for next year without knowing the pricing for the tickets. I think its honestly wrong, especially with the cost of the playoff tickets. And why do playoff tickets go up each round? I guess its something new and maybe small in some peoples eyes but to me you have a fan base that is loyal and you are using that. My favorite years are when they are rebuilding so I will always love these years. As for the coaching situation here is my feelings on it. Midgley is 100% Cams guy, but they would have signed off on it but it was probably to new for them to change the decision. But if they do want to make an impact on this position they need to throw some money at it. I would bet you that the London Nights coach is the higest paid coach in the CHL. Dale Hunter has had multiple offers and is still there, he wouldnt stay unless he was well taken care of. Now as for the difference in locations I really dont think that matters, Halifax is a great place to live and I feel like that would allow us to get someone. Maybe Midgley is that guy and he just needs to get a full cycle to get to his team. Anyway I will always be a moose fan but my Opinion and everyone is okay to have their own is that they are trying to get a higher return by increasing pricing and if this happens its not about the communitiy like they said originally. Not to mention that we have another option in the Thunderbirds to spend money on and to be honest that atmosphere is a lot different than going to a mooseheads game, and also speaks to the younger ages. When it comes to ticket pricing I will give my views. But untill then I am going to every game and hopefully that is a long playoff run.

In the Dale Hunter case, he might have the biggest salary because he's part owner of the team.

Isn't this the pricing? Or am I wrong and this is from last year? That is the pricing for next year, not sure why anyone would think it is a secret. Last year was $575 for adults and the special $94 anniversary price for kids. eta. playoff tickets only go up every round for the general public, just checked my credit card statement as we bought individual tickets for playoffs last year and the price went up $1 per round. I guess I just dont like how it was done. Season ticket holders always were renewed when they purchased the playoff package, this year instead of this they needed to renew tickets(Deposit) and then dish out for the playoffs in order to get discounted prices for the tickets. I have people that have been season ticket holders for a long time setting around me and couldnt pay the deposit and get playoff tickets. Now they are paying a higher price for playoff tickets and I dont think that is fair in anyway. Also keep in mind that we have a lot of kids that go to the games so moving the price froom $94 to $150 is a large increase. Also a extra $50 dollars isnt alot over the year but when you have 3 and 4 tickets it makes a difference. Look in a world that the price of everything is going up I guess if I was the owner I would do the same, that being said when he came to Halifax he was talking about supporting the community and bettering the Scotia Bank Centre I just have not seen enought. If he would not have said these things I would be fine with these changes. I just feel bad for familys that are being challanged by this change. On the radio yesterday Hockey registrations are down by the hundreads in Nova Scotia, if that starts happening and the price of tickets go up it will change the landscape of the club. I am not saying I want the owner to lose money but understanding the picture is important.

Even at $150 its great value for 32 games. Where else can you even get your kid in the door for under $5? Hockey registrations have been falling provincially for a long time. Hockey is a sport for the upper class to play. Even the middle class is being squeezed out in this era of inflation and housing issues.

I'm not a huge fan of Midgely either but you have to remember how late in the summer Favreau left. However, in your original post you emphasized (twice) ownership "doing nothing" which is categorically untrue. They've spent money to hire additional scouts and support staff. They've relaxed some of Bobby's "rules" that have made it easier on the players and coaches. They've had some pretty decent fan events and community engagements, particularly for the kids. Any renovations or improvements to SBC can't and won't happen overnight but they've at least put a few more merch kiosks in there. The 30K prizes for renewal is not bad. I'm happy to rake them over the coals if we don't see improvements on and off the ice in a few years, just not ready to jump on them right now.
