Fantastic news that Butler is interested in coming here and has signed.

When we drafted him last year, his 41 points were tops among 06 (first year) players. Then he had a great year at Shattuck St. Mary's where he was more than a point per game player (1.11).

On the 2022 CSR list he was ranked as a 5th round player. So we must keep expectations in check. It's great that he's coming, but we're not talking about someone who was supposed to be a first round pick (like Sasha Boisvert, Xavier Veilleux, etc). We are a rebuilding team and Butler will recognize opportunity to play top end minutes as we grow and develop our young talent.

Hopefully we see him emerge as a talented player for us as an 18 and 19 year old player.... and if he can step in and be a game breaker at 17.... even better!

The Newfoundland MAAA league is not sending players to the Q like it once did. There were only 5 players drafted out of the league last season and we took 3 of them (Kearsey, Butler, Nolan Avery). The geographical distance form Newfoundland to the teams in the league likely is making it less common for players to strive to come to the Maritimes to play.

But there seems to be a stream out of Newfoundland leading to Charlottetown... and hopefully we can see this trend continue.

I also think he was much better than the position he was drafted at. He had a tough Monctonian, but was a star the Atlantics. This is a huge get for Hulton

I hope that is the case. Likely the case that fewer scouts are looking at Newfoundland, beyond the major tournaments, so you have to take the rankings from there with a grain of salt.

You will all love Butler. High motor that plays his heart out. I would be surprised if he becomes an everyday top-line player (I just don't know if his size allows it), but he'll be a key member of your team for the next 4 seasons.

I would say he went pretty well where he should have, maybe could have gone 10-15 earlier but no more. He was even smaller at that point... such a crapshoot with 15yos.
