Now who will they pick ? thoughts , has anyone watched any of the top prospects ? Seems like Caleb Desnoyer (Elliot Desnoyer’s brother and Simon Laliberte’s nephew) seems to be considered the top prospect committed to coming to the Q. Can’t imagine they don’t pick him - he finished third in scoring during the Quebec midget season and is leading the playoff scoring by about 5 points over the next closest player (his teammate)

Well we definitely have some options and I'm sure they'll do the due diligence on all the players. I think I'm just as interested in who might be available at 13

Caleb Desnoyers seems to be the #1 rated prospect on most rankings. Here's why I think there's a case for another option (possibly two) at 1st overall. Alex Huang // RD // St-Eustache:
Possibly the best skater available in the draft. Very fun to watch. Offensive defensive but quite capable of handling himself defensively as well. 40 points in 42 games to lead all defensemen in Quebec U18 AAA scoring. I think he will put up more points in the Q than Jordan Spence. Nathan Lecompte // RC // Chateauguay:
Played U18 AAA as a 14 year old. Won the scoring title this season with 32 goals and 28 assists in 41 games. A gamebreaker and natural leader. You won't find a harder worker in this year's draft class. Effective in all 3 zones. Often played against the opposing teams top lines. A smaller forward at 5'9" and 160 pounds but he has plenty of room to grow. His dad, Eric Lecompte, is listed as 6'5" and 190 pounds.

Just as an aside (because I genuinely don't think he's coming to the Q), Morin is the top rated player from everything I've read. CSR will likely find an excuse to drop him to 6 or 7, because they have a history of dropping guys that aren't interested in the Q down the rankings. I think you are making this pick more difficult than it needs to be. I think Desnoyers is the perfect compliment to your group. If Moncton truly wants one of these two, I think the best move would be to trade up with the other 1sts.

Desnoyers seems obvious and could slot in and have an impact immediately given who is returning up front.
Wheeler might be a good option with their next pick but I don't think he hangs around that long. If he is still available Chicoutimi probably takes him with one of their two picks at 11/12.
Hopefully the Cats can package up one of the picks and bring in an impact 18-19 year old player to help make up a portion of the offense and grit that just left.

My fear with trading a 1st round pick for immediate help is, unless you're getting a Cataford type player who will step in and be a PPGM guy, you might trade a potential impact guy for a guy that ends up as a 3rd liner or low end 2nd liner on a good team. I think trading a 1st rounder for a 19 year old should be a non starter, if they don't host in 2025, they may be better off loading up for 2026.

Obviously, Moncton currently has 3 picks in the first this year. How many picks do we think they end up making?
I’m betting 2 and that they either trade down with the last pick or trade it for a player. Not sure a mid to late first round pick itself would be worth an impact player, particularly one that will be around for multiple seasons, but I guess we’ll see.
I expect the first pick will be a forward, one of the obvious names. I wouldn’t mind them grabbing someone like Zachary Morin or Liam Kilfoil with one of the other 1st round picks if they think they can convince them to report. Worst case scenario, they get a first next year as compensation - it shouldn’t hurt their ability to go for it too much since they’re likely aiming to go for it the season after next.

How high up would moncton be able to move , if they traded both their other 1st round picks for a higher 1st round pick ? would it be worth it ? maybe pick up desnoyer's line mate emile guite ? or the d-man Huang . I believe Halifax in 1 draft picked up B-O groulx and moved up to pick Jared McIssac with the second overall pick that worked out well for them

I believe Halifax in 1 draft picked up B-O groulx and moved up to pick Jared McIssac with the second overall pick that worked out well for them It did work out well, but they also took advantage of the fact that Baie-Comeau had the 2nd pick and McIsaac publicly made it clear he wouldn't report there. So they took Groulx first and basically forced Baie-Comeau to trade the pick

What about taking a chance at Morin at 13? If he's still on the board

What about taking a chance at Morin at 13? If he's still on the board I seriously hope not. It seems he has no chance of coming to the Q and we dont need anymore Hopkins, Rozzi etc. It seems this is a deep draft and we should be taking the best player available with that pick that has 100% chance to report. They have a bunch of 6th 7th rounders they can blow on guys who will never come if thats what they want to do.

Similar to what Chicoutimi did It would give you a chance to land the best player in the draft at 13 and if not you defer your pick to next year
