If they couldn’t find a trade partner at the draft, this at least gives him a chance to land with a team in the ohl or whl That is exactly what happened. There were no takers. Looking forward to the Euro draft! |

The Euro draft is Wednesday! What do we expect? Do we use both picks and what should we be trying to get? 2 picks, 2 forwards imo. The second guy needs to be told up front that SJ may not have a spot right away. |

Wow!! Needless to say I’m surprised. Me too. Very disappointing. They must have two imports lined up because I assume they're still going to try to trade Mateiko. |

I also hope for 2.
I could see an argument to be made that the team would rather give his ice time to someone else and develop an import. Also,I think having Pavel around hurt Meteiko's trade value because teams think SJ wouldn't cut Simek (and would get desperate).
In this scenario, this is a plan to start the season with Mateiko and 7.

Eriks Mateiko will return for the 2024-25 season while Pavel Simek has been released.

Yeah I guess they'll just go with one with the expectation that if Mateiko does get traded, we likely get an import coming the other way in that trade.

I wonder if the announcement might have been to get things rolling for a trade today at the draft? I would love to see him stay with the dogs as he is the one bright spot but if the team is planning on going in with the 08 group they need help now. What is Matenkio worth?

Ok I thought they could trade euro today. I wonder if they keep him until Christmas to help the team and make a move when teams are ready to buy. They could trade with a team that does not have both euro spots used so they don’t need to get a euro in return. This will allow them to pick again next year which I assume could be a very high pick as well.
