From the Sea Dogs: The Saint John Sea Dogs have reassigned five players from the Training Camp roster, the team announced today. Forwards Alexis Beaudoin, Brayden Campbell, Matthew Ferdinand, and Jonah Leard have been returned to their respective teams along with defenceman Arnaud Tardif. The moves bring the number of players on the roster down to 16 forwards, 10 defencemen, and five goaltenders. There is absolutely no excuse for this. We just cut a couple of guys that seemingly have played well so that guys who were shockingly bad get to stay because they are returning. I dont care if these 4 aren't going to make this year's team, but there had better be a trade or free agent to add another forward to this group, because right now it looks like we will have 1-2 forwards that aren't good enough (and if last night and last tmyear are evidence, they will be handed ice time with good players and actively kill their line.

Mathis Perron was released by Gatineau. He could be of interest as a potential OA (can play C).

Of who is left - who do you think should be cut? I see only 2 forwards and 2 D'Men to go. Expecting one of the 20's on D for sure. On Forward I expect to see either Allen, Beaulieu, Calder and Richard as the last two (2) cuts or possible Lavallee if they want to go a different direction. in Nets - Robinson is the only safe call to keep - wild guess after that.

Richard and Beaulieu both struggled mightily for different reasons. Jacob still can't skate well enough to be effective and his puck skills haven't improved enough. Jeremie plays fw like he's a D. He was in the wrong position the whole game outside of the goal. Calder is also a step slow, but at least his passing/shooting was good.

Elie Warren was cut by Victo. It appears that SJ had loaned him there. I wonder if he reports to camp?

I believe that final cuts are due Sunday.
In nets, I dont see a bad option. The 3 vets have all done their part. I dont like the idea of a 16 yo goalie, but if SJ thinks he'll develop better here, then it isnt impossible. They could also still bring someone in (likely a 20 yo starter if they do).
On D, it seems like everyone has been playing well. It's going to be a tough decision given that our best 3 OA all play D. Again, I dont know that there is a wrong answer here (short of cutting one of Amyot/Duhamel to make room for an older D)
Up front - this is where I have objections. We've run some really stupid lines that make no sense. Personally, I think Allen would be an asset to this team, and I'd like an OA fwd, but I don't know that Lavallee is that player. I've been outspoken on guys I'd rather not see, but it makes sense when you make lines and try to figure out who you put those players with (which line they anchor). The big fear is that while I like Yared and Rozzi together, they need to be our 4th line against Moncton and Riki (ie that we have 3 clearly better lines).

Given that Matteo Mann will be attending Flyers rookie/training camp, wouldn't surprise me to see Lavallee (or another OA FW) start the season.

I would agree I think the team is waiting to see where Mann goes. I don’t know much on the OA forward is he the best option.

Mateo Mann could sign a pro contract with the Flyers organization. Having Nate Tivey (who is pretty much being counted on for 25+ minutes of ice time per game) and Joe Ianniello to start the season with another quality 20 year-old forward would be good. Besides Leighton Carruthers or Sam Oliver - both of whom I've been advocating for - does anyone have a list of overagers who could be available via trade from another QMJHL team? Are there any legitimate rumours of players available from outside the 'Q'?

Coming into the 'Q', Leighton Carruthers profiled as a power forward with a pro shot. I felt that he performed well as a rookie but it's apparent that he did not progress as expected in Rouyn-Noranda.
I'd like to see him have another chance to prove himself in Saint John. And I believe that he could be a good fit on the wing with Rozzi and Yared.

They have four 20s with him, Jules Boilard, Anthony Lavoie, and C-A Gravel. Boilard will stay because of his brother, Lavoie was just named captain, and Gravel is their #1 goalie. Victo also has four 20s right now as well with Henneberry, Prischepov, Iasenza, and Aguilar. I wonder if any of them become available?

In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), teams are typically allowed to carry up to three overage players, known as "20-year-olds," on their roster. However, teams can temporarily carry a fourth 20-year-old under certain conditions, such as awaiting trades or dealing with injuries. This is usually allowed only for a limited period early in the season.
By December 31, teams are generally expected to have their roster trimmed to the maximum of three 20-year-olds. If a team has four 20-year-olds on the roster by that date, they will need to make a decision to reduce it to the allowed three.
So, while it may be possible to carry four 20-year-olds temporarily, it would not be allowed to maintain that beyond December 31.
