Congratulations to Travis Crickard who was named an assistant coach with the Men's National U18 team who are travelling to Finland beginning Apr 25. He joins Gardiner MacDougall who was named head coach. Also interesting to note, Saint John native Kevin Elliot was named the athletic therapist for the team.

Sea Dogs draft pick Kynan Labbe (G) has committed to Union College. Most of Union's players are Jr. A guys and they barely finished at .500 this season. Hockey team had to do a telethon to raise money too... interesting choice

Just because he signed there it does not mean he will there. He still could be in SJ in September

It’s lottery day! Hopefully dogs can move up in the picks and add a solid piece to the rebuild.

Does anyone know what picks the Dogs have in the next 2 seasons? This draft and the next? I have a hard time keeping up with all the trades. Assuming these are the 2 drafts their core will be built out of?

This is usually the time of year where we're all naively looking to see who the best players are and where they'll and up... and then on draft day out of the blue Saint John just goes ahead and drafts Tynan Lawrence and we're all like "Well of course he's reporting why would Saint John pick him that high?", and then he reports and we're all like "Well we should've seen this coming." Not this year Saint John. We're on to you.

A little under 4 weeks away from the draft.
One thing about the team is that I genuinely hope that the team uses its import pick (or both). Whatever that means in the near future, it seems like a good/great player could be taken.
Also, if Labbe and Doyon-Cataquiz are both headed south, it is likely that the Dogs will have to use a top 100 pick on a goalie.
I would love to see the team find a way to add another 17 year-old that could slot on a 3rd line and potentially play up (like Peitzsche in Shawinigan).
I would like a better OA up front (someone that can slide into a top 6 for a non-contender).

In 2016 SJ drafted Shane Bowers in the 2nd round, a year after he was picked 4th overall by Cape Breton but refused to report. While I and many others felt that he was likely coming to SJ after that, he never did play a game in the Q.

I know they are more crash and bang but we don’t have any scoring depth. Do we see any trades that might help us getting better up front? I think the only way to do that is to move a D or 2

I can’t see Mann being traded I don’t see SJ getting what they gave up for him. Do you think we will be making any trades before the draft?

I expect SJ to at least explore moving up. The other things are things that could come together on the draft floor or later.

As a quick guess at who could be available:
Mateiko should theoretically be the best returning Import. He helps any contender and they all have the assets to acquire him without touching any picks.
Simek could be useful to a couple of teams. There is the Moncton scenario where they acquire him cheaply to play 3rd line and be an elite PKer (because they legit have 6 or more better FW). There's the Repcik scenario where teams think he could break out and become an elite import. The third is the scenario where a weaker team goes after him for veteran depth (because of cost).
Bilodeau has to at least be considered because of his age. That being said, he's still got 2 more years left and figures to be an important player for SJ.
Peddle should also be considered because of his age, but unlike the others, he likely has an elevated price tag because like Highmore a few years ago, there's a real chance that things click into place for him and he's that legit top liner.
Richard is likely available because he seems to be sliding down the depth chart.
SJ is in a position where they could hang on to Peddle and Bilodeau for next year (when the team should be better), knowing that moving 1 or both imports allows them to introduce imports that fit the cycle.
