Been rumoured on the French boards that Charlottetown, is trying to trade for 17 yr old peltsche from shawinigan . A Nova Scotia boy who shoots left could play wing with Butler and Shields in the future. I think Goriunov could also work with that line. Peitzche could also play with Michaud and Campbell as a center man.

We don’t have the picks to acquire Peitzsche. He’s rumored to be heading back to the Maritimes. For us to be able to pull off the deal we likely need to send Michaud back to Shawinigan. I like Michaud better….but maybe there is a good deal where other assets are changed to leverage the deal. I think you guys would really like Peitzsche. I know his numbers aren't stunning but keep in mind that he's almost a full year younger than Michaud. They both count as 18 year olds but if he was born 6 weeks later he'd be literally a full year younger.
Even so, Peitzsche is big, strong, he works hard and plays with some grit as well. If you look at the point totals, He's about where Michaud was at his actual literal age.
Would I trade them 1 for 1? No, probably not, Michaud still has the same number of years left in the league most likely and there's no guarantee Peitzsche catches up.
But, if Shawinigan were willing to sweeten the pot a bit, they have picks 21, 33, and 35 and Charlottetown doesn't pick until 42.
If it's Peitzsche and the 21st pick vs. Michaud, then I'm pulling that trigger without much hesitation. Hell even the 33rd, if there's a kid I like on the board then than how do you say no to that?
That's just my take as somebody who doesn't have much skin in the game.

I do like Michaud more then Peitzsche.......HOWEVER.......If something as you suggested was available and the Isles could draft say....Liam Arsenault of the Kensington Wild and add Peitzsche in the cost of Michaud....I would do it. A scouting report on local player, Arsenault. "Here’s a kid that doesn’t backdown in any situation, he’s relentless when it comes to playing the game. It doesn’t take you too long to realize just how driven and passionate this player is. Liam is a highly skilled two-way player proves a lot of critics wrong given his overall stature and size, he competes in every situation, again here’s a player that will be criticized for what he doesn’t bring to the table instead of what he brings game in game out. He reads the play and processes the game at a very high level, he makes up for any perceived deficiencies (his size) with his hockey IQ and compete level. This kid proved me wrong this season, I had him rated as D level prospect in October at the Q Cup, that’s why limited viewings can be misleading, it didn’t take him too long to prove me wrong, Over more viewings this kid was dynamite, He compete level is off the charts, his ability to get to the dirty areas of the ice coupled with his ability to create and make plays under duress is truly fantastic! He’s a gritty player with great skills in traffic, his shot is highly accurate and deceptively heavy, This kid just finds a way, he can score and create for others, Being well over a point a game at the U18 AAA level as a rookie is incredibly impressive, people will bet against Liam Arsenault because of his size, teams should be very careful when it comes to passing a player like that up just because of his size." I am much more interested in a Michaud/Peitzsche deal if there is opportunity for us to bring in much needed picks.
I'd love to see us retain a guy like Michaud for the bulk of his junior career. Angus Booth, Mathis Aguilar, Justin Gill, Xavier Fortin, Anthony Hamel, Shawn Boudrias, Samuel Guilbault, Andrew Smith, Anthony Wojcik, Alexis Pepin, Kevin Laliberte, Yan-Pavel Laplante, Louick Marcotte, JP Mathieu, Danick Malouin, Michael Dubuc, Alexandre Boivin.... these are all Quebec based players that the Islanders/Rocket dealt away before they reached maturity as Q players. Some were dealt as youth to bring in veteran talent.... but too many were dealt hastily before they were given a chance to develop in Charlottetown. Historically it seems that maybe we are too quick to move a young player from the province of Quebec to a Quebec based team.
Michaud is dynamic and has great upside and could have three more awesome years in the Q. I'd be very careful if dealing him. It would have to be a deal bringing us the quantity of picks that we really need.

Right.... I forgot that Goriunov, as a 20 y/o Euro, can go on a special list due to his age. This means that we can retain one of Maruna/Ozols (would be Maruna) and make a selection at pick #10. But, when the regular season starts then we have to settle on 2 Euros and maybe Maruna is the odd man out. It is a good strategy if we were to take a high end pick who might be questionable to report and then Maruna is the fall back option. But, it leaves Maruna in a bit of a lurch if he is looking to return to North America because if he is the odd man out here it might be tough for him to find a roster spot on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Based standings and the fact that the QMJHL has first pick this year, Charlottetown is slated to draft at #10 in the CHL Import draft this season. I do not think they will bypass the chance to select this early in the draft, which signals to me that they will walk both Maruna and Aksels Ozols and play next season with Goriunov and a new Euro. It is disappointing that things did not materialize better for Maruna. He was the 14th overall pick in last year's Import draft. The advertisements were that he was coming in as a 6'4" 200 lb centreman. Even his point totals are somewhat in the range compared to other Euros selected to the Q: -Samuel Fiala in Val-d'Or was 23 points in 60 games as an 18 y/o and was picked at #5 -Jiri Klima in Shawinigan was 31 points in 54 games as a 17 y/o and was picked at #20 -Rimouski picked Lukas Hes at 29 and he lasted 16 games before they cut him loose -Frantisek Dej in Sherbrook was 16 points in 50 games as an 18 y/o and was picked at #47 -Yannik Ponzetto had 14 points between Halifax, Shawinigan, and Bathurst as a 17 y/o and was picked at #50 Those are the forwards taken by QMJHL teams in the 2023 Import draft. There is way less talent selected in the Euro draft now than compared to previous seasons. What used to be a draft where you'd find an immediate top line player now is a situation where a lot of picks are "draft and follow" type players. European countries are working harder to keep top end talent home. The USHL and NCAA are attractive options for European players. Having Russian and Belorussian players ineligible for a stretch further limited the talent pool. So, you can make a case that there's merit in continuing to work with Maruna in hopes of drawing out his talent and making better use of his size. But I keep coming back to the fact that the Islanders NEVER used him as a center after he was taken off the top 2 lines (so say from November onward) plus the fact that he spent a lot of time as a healthy scratch. I feel the decision was made during the season that he's not part of the long term plans here, thus I see them going a different direction. It is unfortunate that we weren't able to capitalize when we picked as high as we did (#14) but it is getting very difficult to bring in talent via the CHL Import draft. Something to keep in mind is that Charlottetown can still draft an import without releasing Maruna. They could take a shot and see if they could get someone to report knowing that Maruna is a fall back option.

Here is a pre-draft up to date protected list: chl.ca/lhjmq/en/roster/7/207/Going through the names, here are some players I recognize that we've dropped: 2022 draft picks: Rylan Aiken and Nolan Avery 2021 draft picks: Mitchell Wagner, Jano Zambakdjian, Sam Bowness, Dustin Riff, Denver Damphousse, Noah Woodard, Nicholas-Jaden Hui I think a number of those 2021 picks were releaed before this year. Of course, Bowness is a recent release Veteran players James Swan, Robbie Rutledge, and Lane Hinkley have been released. Also, American defenceman Aryx Seifker has been dropped.

I guess when we have had such few picks over the years there's more room on the list to keep bodies on our list.

With the new waiver rule this year (18yr olds who don't make teams have to be released and places on waivers), it wouldn't surprise me to see the Isles add someone to their roster via waivers.

More than a couple of those players could be had for relatively little allowing Charlottetown to keep their waiver preference.
