In all seriousness Halifax is at the start of a cycle and are probably looking for a younger guy trying to break into the CHL. Moncton needs a coach to compete now, even if it's a one and done. I just dont think you pull MacDougall out of UNB to the Q. I think if that was what he wanted he would have already made that decision. The next step for him would be AHL head coach or NHL assistant coach. He may help do what he did for SJ and take over in the playoffs but I really dont think it would be a big promotion to the Q. What I do know is both owners of the Wildcats and the Mooseheads have the ability to throw money at him to try to make this happen. I am not sure how much the cycle of the Q would motivat MacDougall. Most successful coaches leave University to AHL. The motivation is his sons future career in hockey operations and getting it started in the right way in a situation that Gardiner has a lot of say and influence over. He'd already be on a pro staff if it was only about his own career goals.

I think that winning the World U18 Championship and the Complete Domination of College Hockey would / could get him an AHL Head Coaching or NHL Assistant's Gig .If he goes to Moncton it will have more to do with working with his Son ....Ex Eagle Taylor and the obvious ......................$$$$$$$ . Since it is a Go For It Year for The Wildcats .....what about a 1 Year LOA from UNB and go to Moncton as a Hired Gun for a Season . If he did that and delivered a Q Championship ( he already has a Memorial Cup lol ) he will write his own Ticket . He wants to coach Canada at the World Juniors in Ottawa. In order for that to happen, you have to be a head coach in the CHL. Hockey Canada rule. When Irving found out, he jumped at the opportunity to offer him the job in Moncton.

They've had several non-CHL head coaches over the history of the program.

Must be a New Rule . Pat Quinn was retired from Pro Hockey when he Coached the Team that had Taveras , Eberle and Subban that won Gold in Ottawa .....2009 I believe .

If I'm a Wildcats fan, I would be looking at the purposed rules change with the NCAA.
If I understand correctly, Taylor MacDougall currently is an advisor to Luke Sinclair who is currently committed to Princeton. Plus is Father Robbie served as an assistant coach to his dad for 2 years at UNB in the mid 2000's. It's a long shot, but NIL changed NCAA.

The thing is they have already asked GM to be the coach every year for the last 3-4 years but he keeps turning it down because of his situation with UNBi the fact that his son has a great job as a player agent representing NHLers, I think it’s to the point now that if GM takes the coaching role then his son has to be in the picture with a better/ lucrative job. So ultimately it’s up to the family and what direction they want to go in cause I think at this point Irving is just throwing money at him to sway his opinion as they tried the previous 4 years with out any luck Irving tried to help the deduction by giving Richie a ceo job within company ultimately showing the McDoubles that they have a big job open come take it

Expect clarity in the coaching jobs at UNB and Moncton Wildcats beginning today. UNB has scheduled a press conference for 5:30 at the Aitken Centre.
Men's hockey team members and University officials will be on hand for a special announcement regarding the leadership of the Reds’ men’s hockey program.

From Jeff Marek:
QMJHL News - Sounds like UNB's Gardiner McDougall will be the next head coach of the Moncton Wildcats, with his son Taylor MacDougall taking over the GM position. Taylor, who is considered a major up-and-comer, had been working as an agent with Roy Sports Group.

Haven’t seen any official announcement yet, but people saying on Twitter that Moncton is having a press conference to announce MacDougall tomorrow.
UNB probably wanted to give him a big send off and assume MacDougall wanted to say his goodbyes as well before being announced with Moncton.
