Steinman Warren Morin Mackinnon Grenier AFG Trade Zielinski Loshing Desnoyers Trade/euro Collard. Lounsbury. Sumpf Smith Trade/euro. Mercier Carrier. F/A. F/A Sampson /Hayne/schlender Carrier won't play on a 4th line for a second year in a row, Smith is not top 9 on a contender's team, Lounsbury and Collard are barely top 6 on a contender's team. A lot of players are overvalued. There's a lot to be done upfront to call the 2024-2025 Wildcats a REAL contender even with the terrible coaching this season. That's my opinion. This is not the NHL, in junior hockey, kids take a sizeable jump from year to year, both Lounsbury and Collard made big jumps from 17-18, will be interesting to see where they are next fall.

Not saying Rouseau is the answer, just saying that Steinman and Warren are not, at least not on a contending team even with an upgraded defence and better team overall. The 24-25 season hasn't even started, pretty early to say those guys can't do the job when both played a big part of getting the team to the top 4 overall until the offense disappeared. They are at worst good enough that you can wait until midseason to make a call. You can usually get a 20 year old goalie for a less than huge return at midsesaon trade period. I agree, waiting to see what shakes from the tree at Christmas seems prudent, but their stats were not good on a team that was in the running for 4th overall in the league. This I believe is a chicken or egg conundrum, did they bring a mediocre team higher than they would have otherwise or did the team score their way to wins despite shaky goaltending, Stieinman was 3.25 and Warren was 3.19, not numbers you build a contender with. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the goalies, I just don't see them leading us forward, they were more of a stop gab measure that will need to be addressed at Christmas, if the prices are too high then you roll the dice with them, but you need to upgrade them if at all humanly possible

First order of business for the new coach and GM is take a hard and realistic look at this roster and see what there is to build around. I don’t see a true contender for this season, soft roster and easy to play against. We’re behind Cape Breton. And Rimouski. And Chicoutimi who is younger than us but has more blue chip prospects to build around. Desnoyers and Carrier are the future. I’m thinking it should be retool this year and go for it in 2025-26 and 2026-27 when they are 18 and 19 Edit:I can see Smith in a 3rd line checking role on a contending Cats team

Steinman went from 30 to 32 per game this year, wish the Q did a better job of tracking high danger chances but a better coach who actually gets them to play defense instead of throwing pizzas up the middle all game

There’s no good statistical way to judge a QMJHL goalie but GAA is the worst of the 2 stats we actually do have.
Steinman had a .900 save percentage on an absolutely atrocious defending team.
Let’s look at who was ahead of him.
Rousseau (HAL) -Yeah he’s an upgrade but he’s a divisional goalie with a high cost. Won’t happen. Also, if went to the QMJHL finals last year. His stats the year prior to Halifax trusting him in their go for it year? 3.45GAA with a .901 save percentage.
Rousseau (ROU) – 20 year old
Darveau (VIC) – 20 year old
St-Hilaire (SHE) – Would be an upgrade but at what cost?
Ruccia, Milota (CB) – The Wildcats scored 60 more goals than the Eagles this season. Safe to say the Eagles played a much safer and conservative game than Steinman had to watch from his crease.
Gravel (BC) – Solid goalie but Baie-Comeau is probably not looking to get rid of him
Miller (RIM) – Solid goalie. Definitely not getting traded
Mercer (DRU) – Solid goalie. Could be an option at Christmas.
Ciarlo (BC) – Is he really an upgrade over Steinman? Maybe. Could be an option at Christmas.
Delafontaine (CHI) - .001 above Steinman. His save percentage went from .893 with Shawi to .910 with Chicoutimi this season. More proof that the team in front of you has a big impact on goalie stats.
No one there that makes me see the need to rush things. I could be convinced if someone there was a 19 year old which would allow the Cats to use a 20 year spot on another position but everyone listed here is going to use an Import or overager spot.
As mentioned by others, best course of action is to improve the team elsewhere and hope Steinman takes a step forward behind a better team. To me, he passes the eye test. Sure he let in a few softies like everyone else but he definitely had A LOT of solid games regardless of what the stats show.

This is exactly my point, WC had one of the best duos in the Q, but the numbers won't 100% show it because they played poor defensively, giving up too many odd man rushes and d-zone giveaways. The new coach needs to tighten that up first and foremost. We can't ignore Warren either, he was a stud in Jr.A at 17 and showed flashes of brilliance this season. Not out of the question that he takes a step forward at 19 and becomes a top 5-6 goalie in the Q.

Fingers crossed for Andrew MacDonald 2.0 ... sounds like he has a roster spot sewn up and not just a tryout. If nothing else, the Cats are poised to clean up on the charity scramble golf circuit with the addition of the Mullen brothers - both are national caliber competitive golfers.

I'd imagine he ends up taking Hacketts spot. He's not giving up NCAA options to be a 7th D.
Morin (L)-MacKinnon (R) AGF (L)-Grenier (R) Mullen (L) - Euro? (R) Lindsay, Langlois, Pellitteri, Dawe etc.
Not much room at camp for someone to make the team on D.

Can a Wildcat Poster or 2 or 3 lol.....Give us a review of the Zielinski Kid we acquired from you guys ? Thank You . Steady stay at home defenseman at 17. Rarely makes a turnover, can play physical. He was arguably our most reliable and safest dman last season. Most games you would not notice him and in a good way. I would expect with some progression there will be abit of offense added to his game and will be considered more of a 2 way guy. I'm pretty suprised by this move. I cant see them finding much with their 2nd euro pick so it'd signal to me another trade is happening. This was from Lirette, hope it was ok to copy and paste. I agree with Lirette on the review of Zielinski, was surprised they moved him , must be something big in the works !
