Jokes aside - this is good marketing for the team this early in the season ... everyone loves a winner ... and the team will likely see the band wagon filling up as upcoming games are promoted as featuring "Gardiner MacDougall and his #1 ranked Moncton Wildcats in action at the Avenir Centre" ... great way to catch the attention of casual fans and get them out and in the habit of attending earlier in the season ...

The cats need to cater to the "bandwagon fans". I know we're still only a handful of games into the season, I feel like the attendance is lackluster still atleast the three i've attended so far. The theme nights are sort of fun between country night/ y2k etc but, they could definitely find some ways to get more fans in the stands. Thursday night football night doesn't put butts in seats. Something like a loonie/toonie hotdog night or a "happy hour" game would 100% boost attendance, especially in say a thursday night game against a northern Quebec team.
I would love to see the rink sold out like the coliseum used to be when the cats were a powerhouse. Curious to see what you guys think.

We're year 6 of the Avenir Centre and there hasnt been 1 single sign of any deals happening when it comes to concessions. Its just never going to happen with this current setup. People keep asking for it but I think we just need to accept there is a reason it isn't happening. As far as attendance goes the crowds aren't vastly different than what we've seen at this point in the season in other contending years. They will pick up as we get into winter as they do every other season. Also you are going to need to be more specific about selling out "like at the coliseum when they were a powerhouse". Their attendance last year was higher on average than in 2009-2010.

Most of the cities in the Q that are Moncton's size, and several of the bigger ones, are playing in buildings with around 4000 seats, half of what we have at Avenir. You're simply not gonna fill 8000 seats for junior hockey in a city of just 175,000. They've tried every theme night and trick in the book over the last 25 years, and nothing ever moves the needle. Being the hub of the maritimes (2 million+) has always made it a no-brainer for Moncton to build very oversized arenas, but when it comes to events that only draw locally (10% of the maritimes), our arenas are like an average-sized person wearing an XXXL sized jacket. I'd love to see packed houses, and the only way that happens during random regular season games is to curtain off most of the corners and ends. At least at Avenir that can be done quite easily, but for whatever reason Irving doesn't want to do this. Fun fact, Cats home attendance average this year is up 700 over what it was at this point last year, and well ahead of where it was at this stage most years (including pre-Avenir). The "bandwagon" effect is there.... but in the giant building it's not very noticeable.

THE BIGGEST reason you won't see happy hour deals or loonie/twoonie deals is because ASM owns ALL food prices and revenue, so hate on Avenir ripping us off not the Wildcats. So the Wildcats are kinda handcuffed with deals for things, with that being said I would like to see the THURSDAY games be Student nights as a package $99 General Admin for all 4 games with $5 coupon off a beer at the ICE BAR only or something. With attendance issues, there is too much emphasis on STH, they should worry about different packages that can be some sort of deal, WEEKEND Package (SAT-SUN ONLY)-Student Night Package - DIVISIONAL PACKAGE (2 division games and Quebec team) as well sell only the first 14 rows and block off all of the other seats until the bottom sells, too many times the sides loaded to the top but behind the Wildcats net it's barron which makes it look bad on TV.
Attendance Wise 2019 - 5 home games (3-2 at home) 23,585 avg 4717 2024 - 5 home games (3-1-1 at home) 22493 avg 4494
so basically almost on pace from our last Mem Cup or bust season, I will give the teams props for trying themes but they don't feel like it with only music changing and nothing else..IE black gear and it's a Brightcoloured intro or 00's night with out a retro feel which is tough to compete with Halifax cuase they do 90's night the best

I heard they got rid of their ticket sales guy and gave his tasks to Gardiner. I wish I was joking. Anyone hear anything about that?

Reality is that unless you're a STH you're likely only going to 1 game per home stand. For an elite team down the stretch in the 2nd half of the season more people will come out. Same with playoffs. But expecting big crowds in Sep/Oct/Nov just isn't really realistic at this level for most franchises, even ones in bigger markets, unless there's a massive STH base that really only happens during Mem Cup host years. And nobody cares about 90's nights or toonie drinks as a draw in the bigger picture. And when you do those things you're not competing with other markets and how well they do them because none of your fans are even going to be in Halifax to know what their "90's night" is like.

I would love to see the rink sold out like the coliseum used to be when the cats were a powerhouse. Curious to see what you guys think. You have to go to pre-covid to find a larger attendance average over the first few home games. None of these gimmicks boost attendance. Winning hockey teams do that. And your old building wasn't always sold out during big years either. Moncton was a contender in 2009-2010 and certainly didn't "sell out the coliseum" early on. You're romanticizing the past and want people to believe the Moncton coliseum was sold out every night during contending seasons and the reality couldn't be further from the truth. The reality is that your attendance now is still aligned to what it was even back 15 years ago in a different building. Because the audience that is a QMJHL fan base doesn't change all that much in these markets. Build a winner and you'll get bigger crowd into March and the playoffs. But people already harping on marketing and using false analogies of years gone by just gets that entire discussion further away from reality vs providing any useful subjective feedback.
