don't forget Andrew MacDonald was a 19 yr old rookie.... Thats right but he stood out from the crowd IMO. I have no issues taking a 19 yo rookie as long as he stands out.

Its funny what one person see's over another. I would only take a 19 year old fair defenceman if I didn't think that a 17 like Furlotte couldn't get the job done. I think the cuts made sense so I guess we will see what the coaches think. Our biggest weakness this year will be our dmen and adding 17 yr olds will not make us better this year. I agree that we have to add young players for the future but we also have to balance that by adding a little more experience for this year. A lot of the decision on defense will be sorted out once Demitruk makes his decision to stay or go home ... he has a spot if he wants it. I think we still need to add one older dman no matter what Demituk decides ... Tolles and Goyens have not shown that they can be counted on to be defensive leaders yet In no particular order ... Pianosi (18) - Baca (18) Barberio (17) - Tolles (19) Goyens (19) - Demituk (17) And then these 5 probably fighting for 2 maybe 3 slots ... Gomes (19) - Little (18) - Firlotte (17) - Wilson (18) - Boyle (18) If they take Gomes, Little and Firlotte into the season ... and look to maybe cut one later on ... then they'd have 9 dmen ... 3 19 YO ... 3 18 YO and 3 17 YO (if Demitruk stays). That would create continuity from year to year with that type of age range. I would suggest that if Demitruk bows out that Firlotte will probably secure a spot. If Eastman returns he could throw a wrench into the way I described it above ... but we haven't really seen him much. I don't see them keeping 8 d-men...7 at the max...Lamoureux can bail them out if injuries hit. #7 will be an 18 year old, preferably 17 with potential. The 19 year olds are battling for 1 maybe 2 spots, that includes Tolles Gomes Goyens Eastman or adding one via trade or waivers.

I agree with previous comments and add that talking to a scout from RIM about Goyens he just laughed and said That they got the best on that trade.I think whoever was sold on him the price paid appears to high.

Also this morning I found Gomes had a good game and Goyens seems to have stepped it up from last year, good to see. Lincourt looked pretty decent out there at times. I know this is just training camp but after a few games I have a feeling we're going to have a tough time putting the puck in the net. We're going to get A LOT of chances but we don't seem to have a sure fire goal scorer(Ala Goulet) someone that will consistently cash in on the good chances he gets. These goalies aren't amazing but it seems like the players are missing the net or hitting the goalie on the chest or something. Once again, I know they'll get better just a scary feeling I'm getting...

I think it's a little early to be assuming we're going to have trouble scoring. If anything, scoring has been added in the offseason. Sill should bring approximately the same offense as Gaudet, and Brannon, Bezak, MacAusland, etc.. all bring decent offense.
Losing Welton and MacDonald will impact the offense more than anything. They could really move the puck and played a lot of minutes.

I wouldn't say no to a Rio for Tardif + Perreault trade.

But then again we got Trodjman in that year with a trade and Halifax will need to get two goaltenders very soon as well. I don't know. For sure Riopel hasn't been Mem Cup tested and it might be by design to get a 20 year old that will get the job done. Quebec did it, we did it, Halifax will need to do it ..... ?

Missed 4 or 5 open nets today but hey whatever, it's only training camp...I guess.

Why does Halifax need to get two goaltenders? Are they going with a 2-2-2 lineup? (2 forwards, 2 D, and 2 Goalies)?
