To me Flynn showed absolutely 0 confidence in Lavigne........it was advertised in the paper that Riopel was fighting a nasty flu that might be bad enough to probably make him miss at least 1 of the 2 games....yet he still started both games sick as a dog. Why would it be so crucial that Riopel starts both games of a home and home against a team missing their entire 1st line, also this early in the season...long road ahead. If he was 100% healthy maybe(I still would've given Lavigne the start at home)but with him being sick and also the fact he's already been injured this pre-season it seemed to be a no-brainer to start Lavigne at least 1 of the games. The team has something like 9 games in the next 15 days...wouldn't that give them a chance to give Rio a bunch of playing time? If they're that worried about starting Lavigne against a team like Hfx missing 3 high calibre offensive players then theres no point keeping him around as a 19yo....also we're talking about Riopel here and not Roberto Luongo. Lavigne showed flashes of being a great backup in pre-season,so what's the story? Is he fighting a nagging little injury? Is he in the doghouse for some reason? It seems like there should be a good explanation why they thought Riopel had to start both games. You answered your own question....with such a large number of games in the near future, BOTH goalies are going to play. Flynn isn't sending a negative message to Lavigne...he is trying to send a positive one to Riopel, that he is the clear #1. Lavigne came here under no illusion that he was going to get 50% or more of the playing time....it's a long season, he will get his chances to play. I know Lavigne will get his shot when the schedule gets busier, but at the same time you don't want to overwork Riopel.....I know it was just 2 games in 2 days big deal, but if you've ever played hockey sick you'll know what I mean when I say it's not fun(and I wasn't a goalie which would be worst). I'm just saying that IMO when you have one guy sick as a dog and another guy healthy it's a pretty easy job to choose which one plays unless of course its a "must win"game which these 2 games definitely weren't,or if you have zero confidence that your backup will get the job done. If we have a backup that's 19 and we have no confidence in his play then why wouldn't we keep a younger player who might actually have a future on the team.

Not sure who is starting in goal tonight and not sure who is not dressing as a forward , but Boyle and Bacca will sit tonight and Gomes gets inserted into the line-up. I always like these games with teams from the Quebec division...never really know what to expect ....... Baca is not in the lineup again tonight... I really liked this guy and his style of play, he was solid in his own end and big (which we lack). He had a mean streak about him and was fun to watch. Get him into the lineup!!

I did not see Lavigne in pre-season but I did see him the other night and in 2 practises and he did not impress me at all. His stats clearly say otherwise but if noticed the other night he just barely stopped most of his shots by getting a piece of it or not knowing where the puck went as you may have see off that partial breakaway in the second period when the puck got lost in his pad and he had no idea where it is. Also in the shootout he barely reacted to the shots as if they were too quick for them. IMO I think he has a little adjusting to do for the quality of shots being fired at him. It will be interesting to see him delvelop through the year because he moves so smooth, its great to see him do the splits and how he is able to butterfly-slide and pop right back up. It would be nice to see what he can do with a few more games under his belt...don't let the good stats fool you though, he's only played 1 game. I think Flynn is too affraid to lose and thats why Riopel is starting all the games!!

He has potential...but IMO, he's not ready for #1. I'd prefer a 1A and 1B situation myself ... similar to last year ... but I'd want Riopel to get at leat 35 starts. But, if Riopel gets hot you go with him until he cools ... but you don't follow that plan with Lavigne. Lavigne is just a stop-gap guy that won't be back next year ... and investing icetime in him is only for him to stay sharp this year. I agree...go with the hot goalie....unfortunately that's not what your coach is doing...Riopel is far from hot at this point, why not five a couple of games to Lavigne and see what happens.

The conversation was pretty good but suddenly stopped right around the time the puck dropped.
Am I the only one watching this game?

My guess is that the people posting earlier actually went to the game and that's why they aren't posting. I am watching, however. Drummondville just looked beyond tired in the 2nd, content to ice it every 2nd Moncton rush or so. Gougeon was hot in the first period but was hung out to dry in the second. Some good hits in this game and a few of them behind the play. Hopefully some fireworks in the 3rd!

Just got home from the game. Drummondville got into penalty trouble and killed themselves. Riopel played well ;D I love watching the checking line play. Brannon in particular lays out hits. Sill just keeps working. Morehouse got thrown out for agitating. Forget the term they used Bezak is a player. He will be great to watch. Matt M is a great player with a great shot but he seems slow out there. I wish he would finish his checks more too. Defense has room for improvement.

I seen Beca at the game tonight and he looks fine, hard to understand why he would not be in the line up, when we have guys like Gomes in tonight who was strugguling badly, cough up the puck two or three times ?? hard to figure

Thank god Baca wasn't playing and it was Gomes that was inserted into the lineup Baca is "not used to North America" so he would of played worse then Myles "I wish I was Keith Yandle" Gomes. If it wasn't for him Riopel would have not only had the shutout but he would of had a much easier night. Now I know he was rusty or whatever but Baca was one of our best players in pre-season and scrimmages and is a year younger, put him in the lineup!

It was only a matter of time before they started getting by him.

Really felt like hockey weather tonight didn't it ;D All things considered it wasn't too bad of a game by any means. The Cats were pretty much in control from the 2nd period on, and Riopel came up with the big saves when he had to. It was good to see the hard work of the 3rd line pay off with a goal tonight and also good that the 4th line chipped in with a goal as well.
I like most of you can't for the life of me understand why Baca was not in the line-up tonight and quite frankly I'll be in shock if he doesn't start playing some games this weekend with a 3-in-3 coming up. He's never going to adjust if he doesn't play and the time to start playing is now. I think we'll see Herr-Boyle-Baca-Gomes rotated in and out of the line-up over the next 3 games to try and have some fresh legs in the line-up. The same could be said for the 4th line as we'll probably see some different combinations there as well this weekend. Nice to pick up the 2 points heading into a tough 3-in-3 weekend.
