So I have taken the same aproach to the seadogs as I have with my favorite NHL team the Montreal Canadiens. I have decided that I will hum the mantra, "In Bob we trust", but just change it around slightly. Is there 1 trade that J-B has made that we can really criticize? I can't think of any. He has kept me guessing and even when it made sense to draft a Euro point getter he drafted an Euro Goalie..... made no sense at the time, but the future is a long time.
SO with all that being said.... what are we going to do on Monday? Who is going to BAC to complete the Picard-Hooper deal? and what other trades do you guys think J-B will make?
To be honest I'm not even sure that we need to make a move, because I think this group of players could make a very long playoff push. If Halifax had our D they would be ranked #1 in the country. BUT they have 1 defenceman that could crack our top 5.
thoughts?

C I don't know the exact ins and outs of the trade, but certainly Labonte and Monahan for Charland and Kelly + a 5th didn't quite work out in the Sea Dogs favour. Like I said, I don't know all the details, but looking at the offensive numbers of the players involved in that trade, the Sea Dogs come out on the stinky end of that stick.

I really have no clue what to expect this trading period JB is a tough guy to predict. I don't expect much from the Sea Dogs camp but JB could pull out yet another big trade who knows.
Is Amyot part of the Picard deal?
Is Stich on the market?
Could this be the last day we have The Hitman chucken knuckles for the Sea Dogs?
Is there a chance any of our 20's get dealt?
What about Gauthier or Liske I doubt if we are serious about making a run next year either of these guys will be on the team as a 20 but I've been wrong before?
I have no idea that's what makes things fun to watch unfold! ;D

I agree, Labonte and Monahan for Kelly and Charland didn't work out, but it was a gamble, and I like the thought behind it. Kelly was a big kid, and he showed glimpses of having some offensive skill, but it just never came together. JB was also in the process of cleaning house and making this "his" team. This trade was not perfect, but as his worst trade of many, it's still pretty okay. A disclaimer: Keven Charland is one of my niece's favourite players because when she sees him at her school or before a game, he always takes time to talk to her, and just be nice. He's definitely good for the Dogs in that respect, so even if he never puts up numbers close to Labonte or Monahan, I still like him. But we still prolly lost that trade. I could see a D-man moving. Possibly Stich, to open up a Euro spot (either in the draft or in a trade. Maybe Frolik? I can dream, right? ) If that happened, we would have to get a depth d-man somewhere, and the possibilities are intriguing. People have been throwing around Amyot's name as a possible player to get draft picks back from the Picard-Hooper trade, and that makes sense although I don't like it. I think Amyot's improved greatly over the first half. Oh, and if the team is building for next year, I think JB needs to find some scoring depth to replace P-H and Howes (I like stating the obvious sometimes). The only real spare part I can think of who might have a little value is Pard. Maybe he could get that depth defenceman I was talking about.

I was kinda hoping Pard was part of the PH trade instead of Amyot

Re Monahan. I haven't seen him play this year, but there's more to hockey than scoring goals. I never considered him the smartest on the ice, though I think he has the puck beat out in that department. He had lots of problems as a player and I'm not sad he's not here. He is a wonderful skater, and I think he uses that well to get into scoring position.
I could see moving Stich too, but if the plans are to run with it next year, a 19yr old solid guy like David goes a long way. I have to think his mental breakdowns hurt his value to JB though.
I have a feeling there's a big surprise in the works. It's like Christmas eve when you have no idea what's in that box under the tree. Hopefully not coal.

One more question: Is Dopud still on the expanded roster? He might be a decent throw-in to a package or something. Maybe him and Pard somewhere for a 19-year-old scorer or someone JB's on the fence about getting for next year. Call it an "audition."
I've been favorably impressed with Richer so far (I didn't expect much, and he's seen more ice than anyone would have wanted at this point in the season), and Langan is looking more and more like he's gonna be a contributor on this team next year, although I sometimes mistake him for the Irving Oil 7th player during the anthems (size isn't everything, and Langan makes up for it with effort and skill). MacDonald looks like he's working hard every shift (both of them), and might be ready for a regular role next year. Who are the other 16 and 17 year-olds who might have a shot at cracking the lineup next year as things stand now? This would go a long way to deciding what holes need to be filled via trade.

Monahan turned things on about 2-3 weeks before he was traded last year. Before that, he was useless. And I think the trade was agreed to in principle BEFORE Monahan started playing better.
I think we owe St. Laurent to complete the Howes trade. And we owe something to complete the Picard deal too. I'd like to see players added, but I don't want to see us lose any toughness. We have a nice team in that regard.

I wouldn't mind seeing Liske dealt, especially if we could acquire a younger depth forward to replace him.

One player that I wouldn't mind seeing move would be Charland. I expected more from him this year, he is underachieving imo.
