the announcer said he never heard of the rule of Dido and Liske not allowed to shoot. I guess Gonchar was in the box this year during a S.O. and he shot.
But i thought that was the rule

Word around Harbour Station had the referee supervisor going down to the referee room with numerous "fine sheets", after the game. Seems to be spreading around the league a bit. CB had one of those games the other night as well!

SEA DOGS FALL TO MAINEIACS 2-1 IN A SHOOTOUT
Saint John Records a Record of 6-2-0-2 In the Month Of October
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tuesday, October 30, 2007
SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Lewiston MAINEiacs managed to outlast the Saint John Sea Dogs at Harbour Station on Tuesday night, proving victorious in what proved to be a war of offensive attrition.
Starting Sea Dogs net minder Travis Fullerton and his counterpart, Lewiston’s Jonathan Bernier, were both outstanding on Tuesday, making 25 saves apiece in regulation/overtime prior to combining to propel the deciding sudden-death shootout into a lengthy dozen-round showcase, with Lewiston eventually winning in the twelfth frame when Marc Bourgeois beat Fullerton and Michael Kirkpatrick was shut down by Bernier.
Ryan Sparling, playing in his first game since suffering an upper body injury on October 6, scored the lone regulation goal for Saint John, while Lewiston received the entirety of their production from defenseman Denis Reul.
After a back-and-forth opening twelve minutes of play produced little in the way of offence, the crowd at Harbour Station sprung to life after a huge pad save by Fullerton off of a Danick Paquette one-timer kept the visitors from striking first on the night before Halloween.
Ryan Sparling was then awarded a penalty shot with 4:26 remaining in the first period after being hauled down deep in MAINEiacs territory by Denis Reul. Sparling was able to beat Bernier on his attempt, but his shot clanged off the right post of Lewiston’s goal to keep the home team off the scoreboard.
Fullerton came up big again at the 17:20 mark of the opening frame, robbing Chris Tutalo with a big glove save on a semi-breakaway to preserve the scoreless tie as the first intermission got underway.
With a two-man advantage, Saint John then scored the first goal of the game at the 15:38 mark of the second period, as Sparling netted his fourth tally of the season with Chris DiDomenico and Alexandre Picard-Hooper earning assists on the play.
Fullerton continued to impress between the pipes for the Sea Dogs in the middle frame, turning aside all six MAINEiacs shots he faced to give his team a 1-0 advantage as Tuesday’s contest reached the forty minute mark.
Some impressive work by Saint John’s penalty killing unit (12-for-13 on the night) early in the third period kept their one-goal advantage in tact, but the MAINEiacs were able to tie the game at one apiece with 4:43 remaining in regulation as Denis Reul scored on the power play to earn his second tally of the year.
Despite some heavy offensive pressure by the Sea Dogs in MAINEiacs territory late in the third, Bernier was able to keep each scoring attempt from penetrating the Lewiston goal line, forcing the match into extra time as a result.
Neither team was able to muster a goal in the overtime session however, sending Tuesday’s game to a winner-take-all shootout, the second such exhibition partaken in by Saint John in the last three days.
In what was a memorable contest of pure ‘goalie-versus-shooter’, neither team was able to score throughout the opening seven rounds of the shootout.
Four goals were registered in the eighth and ninth rounds however, with Marc-Andre Daneau and Lucas LaBelle scoring for the visitors and Keven Charland and Francois Gauthier responding for the home team.
No further blood was spilt until the twelfth round, when 17-year old Lewiston right wing Marc Bourgeois managed to beat Fullerton with a well-placed shot. In the bottom of the twelfth, Sea Dogs rookie Michael Kirkpatrick was unable to beat Bernier, and the game ended with the MAINEiacs having earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory, squaring the season series between these two teams 2-2 in the process.
Despite the loss, Saint John still finishes the month of October with a record of 6-2-0-2, having earned points in eight of their ten matches to climb into third place in the QMJHL East with 22 points on the season. Lewiston is now only one point back of Saint John in the standings as a result of their win on Tuesday.
The Sea Dogs head to Newfoundland this weekend for a pair of games against the St. John’s Fog Devils. Saint John’s next home game is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 8, and will see the Sea Dogs play host to the Halifax Mooseheads in a 7:00pm contest at Harbour Station.

I was bored so, I decided to see what the average was of penalties per game for the Dogs. Before today's game they had an average of 6 per game. And after today's game they have an average of 6.5. Quite a significant jump.
They had a low of 3 per game in Rimouski ... and a high of 13 tonight.
Below is a list of the games, and which officials were calling the penalties, and the total penalties.
1. Pellerin/Hebert - 8 2. Pellerin - 7 3. Connors/Thomander - 7 4. Mills - 4 5. Pellerin/Stevens - 6 6. Arsenault - 8 7. Aitken/McIssac - 9 8. Pellerin - 4 9. E. Charron - 3 10. Pellerin - 4 11. Connors/Doyle - 7 12. Langille/McIssac - 7 13. F. Charron - 5 14. Langille/Stevens - 6 15. Langille - 6 16. Carruthers - 13
Anyone see a trend there ? The dogs got roughly 6-8 penatlies per game, which seems to be a good number around the league. Then Carruthers comes in and hands out 13? That just blows my mind. I know they have the new "rule inforcement" but if a stick touches someone elses skates, your in the box? Gimmie a break, and let them play. Hopefully the league supervisor took notice of the piss poor performance put on by Carruthers tonight and takes action.

Ref was a joke!
that shootout felt like it would never end...but had the feeling it would end badly for us..f'n Bernier!
kudos to Thomas... blocks one with his jock(ouch), and the next shift he's diving in front of one head first.
nice to see #4 back, seemed to be right back in the thick of things.... Bernier aint gonna blink on the fake slapper on the penalty shot tho!
some of the boys had better get a little more disciplined or they will either be sitting on the bench or in the penalty box a hell of a lot...some real stupid shit going on. Right Mr Gauthier? He's lucky all he got was a 10!
the division gets a little tighter....good luck on the rock boys, bring back four points with ya when you come home.
GO DOGS GO!!

Although I thought the officiating absolutely ruined the game there were a few obvious and stupid penalties by the boys at times that really killed any chance at us getting momentum.
Great defensive battle and great work by Stoddard and Thomas on the Penalty Kill.
I know Gallant has a lot of Boyfriends in here but after sitting for almost the entire third period and not seeing a second in overtime why have him shoot? That was our opportunity after the screw up by God knows who on the Lewiston chance. Please don't tell me he is a goal scorer now as well!!!

The only players that didn't shoot were Thomas, McNeil, Amyot, and Sauve. Gallant has more goals than all 4 of those players so why not use him.
Dido and Liske were in the penalty box so they couldnt shoot.

I thought it was odd Gallant was shooting but when you have that many Shooters go and one of your best not able to go at all might as well use him when you can and get it out of the way Who knows maybe he could have scored!! He does have more goals then all the boys that were Left.
That game was probably the slowest game I have ever seen due to the poor officiating.. 1st period lasted entirely too long due to the massive amount of penalties handed out Very very sad! Hopefully Carruthers will get in shit for being a donkey and making half of those pathic calls

Would have used Gallant over Anthony and Sauve over Despres. :-( Sauve wrist shot/five hole/game over ...
