Rule 83
So the ref's interpretation was right, but he screwed us with his handing penalties to two of our best players near the end of OT.

Dogs lose after long shootout Hockey Saint John coach critical of referee following penalty-filled affair
Andrew McGilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Wednesday October 31st, 2007 Appeared on page B12
SAINT JOHN - A 24-player shootout and two great goaltending performances were overshadowed by 25 minor penalties in the Lewiston Maincieacs 2-1 shooutout win over the Saint John Sea Dogs in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action at Harbour Station on Tuesday.
Sea Dogs head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu had strong words about the officiating after the game.
"Embarrassing for the league the way the officiating was tonight," he said. "How can the kids play? Let the kids play. (Referee Andrew Carruthers) doesn't have to determine the game."
The loss drops the Sea Dogs record to 10-4-0-3 while Lewiston improves to 10-7-1-0.
The Sea Dogs had a big chance to open the scoring with a five-on-three power play early in the first period. However, a few key saves by Maineiacs starter Jonathan Bernier and a Saint John bench minor for too many men on the ice erased the opportunity.
Sea Dogs starter Travis Fullerton was sharp early on. The 20-year-old made a nice save on the penalty kill, sliding across the crease and getting a pad on the puck.
Shortly after the save, Brett Gallant showed his hands are for more than fighting. The forward made a nice move on the rush to avoid a hit and fired a shot that was handled by Bernier.
Just past the five-minute mark of the first, Ryan Sparling was awarded a penalty shot. The Sydney, Nova Scotia native beat Bernier but not the post.
The Maineiacs' best chance of the period came when a Chris Di Domenico turnover sent Chris Tutalo in alone on Fullerton. The Lewiston forward tried to deke the Sea Dogs netminder, but was denied by a quick glove hand.
The first was marked by a parade to the penalty box with 28 minutes called. The period ended tied 0-0.
The second period was uneventful until just past the 15-minute mark. On a five-on-three man advantage, Sparling tried a cross-crease pass that deflected off a defenceman and past Bernier for a 1-0 lead. The goal marked a nice return to the lineup for the 19-year-old who had missed the previous seven games with a shoulder injury.
Saint John kept applying the pressure and the period ended with the Sea Dogs up a goal.
Di Domenico almost made it 2-0 early in the third. Scott Howes sent the Sea Dogs leading scorer on a short-handed breakaway, but Bernier stuck with him to keep it a one-goal game.
The play was reviewed, but the video judge ruled it no goal.
The Maineiacs would tie the game with less than five minutes to go on the power play. With Payton Liske in the box for interference, Denis Reul took a pass from Stefano Giliati in the slot and fired one past the blocker of Fullerton.
The marker would force overtime. Neither squad could brake through and for the second straight game the shootout was needed.
The marathon shootout finally ended when Marc Bourgeois beat Fullerton. A total of 24 shooters tried their luck in the breakaway duel.
Sea Dogs forward Scott Howes said it was a hard game to play.
"I think we played well, but there was no flow," he said. "Guys would get into it a couple penalties would be called. It was just hard to get into the flow."
OUT: Defenceman David Stich sat out the game against the Maineiacs due to back spasms.
The second-year defenceman left Saturday's game against the Fog Devils late in the third period due to the problem.

Rule 83 So the ref's interpretation was right, but he screwed us with his handing penalties to two of our best players near the end of OT. Actually, the players screwed themselves, by taking stupid penalties so late in the game.........the ref was just doing his job.......

Liske got two minutes for being tackled from behind, and Dido got two minutes for sending Marshall three feet in the air with one hand.

And if that was what you call "fishing", it is the type of trolling that most messageboards would punish you for. Baiting another team by pretending to disagree is offensive.

Wonder if JB will get fined for critiscizing the officials.
Anyone watch the Habs and Pens game on Saturday. Gonchar got a penalty with less than 2 minutes in OT and he still performed in the shootout.

The NHL probably doesn't have it written in the rules. If JB gets fined, the Q should be ashamed of themselves. It was an atrociously officiated game, and the Q knows it. Whether they suggest to JB that he shouldn't complain again is up to them, but to fine him for their ineptitude would be horrible.

I sent the QMJHL office an email regarding last night's game to voice my displeasure with last night's game...this is what I got back from Raymond Bolduc who is the Director of Hockey Operations for the QMJHL. ----------------------- Sir,
Our supervisor Larry Christian was at the game yesterday, he was not happy by the performance of our referee. Your email is about the same of his report. We work hard to teach the referees. When they don’t perform, we cut their numbers of games for the following month, and at the end of the regular season, we have a meeting with all the supervisors and we will decide their participation in the playoff. Sorry for that performance. If you want more information on this aspect of the game, you can call me at ***-***-****.

Genius. ;D

I like being able to have intelligent discussion, instead of petty bickering.

Although the officiating was bad all night both ways. I think the penalties late in the game to Dido and Liske were deserved. Dido took away a good scoring chance for the Maineiacs, and if you didnt see Liske retaliate then I dont know what you were watching.
