Moncton had a little trouble with the Océanic tonight. They will be playing their 3rd in 3rd. I am HOPING for a relatively easy win, but you never know with this league.
Saint John with a 5-2 victory, sending the fans to McDonalds.

No reason why we shouldn't win easily today to give us a 3 point weekend.

Thought the game was a real snoozer. Just be thankful we played Rimouski and not any other team in the leauge or we would have lost. Mayer with his 2nd shuout, good for him but I thought our D played very well. Fun stuff at the end, too bad we won't be seeing RIM any time soon again.
8-3-1 so far, let's keep it up. We have 9 points in 12 games, pretty impressive.

I think you mean points in 9 of 12 games, or 17 points in 9 games. 9 points in 12 games might have been something to get excited about the first 2 seasons. I thought the first 2 periods were boring but the 3rd was quite entertaining. Good to see Mayer pick up another shut out. Props to the Rimouski player for getting up from Thomas' huge but dirty hit. The guy Grant barely touched layed on the ice much longer.

SEA DOGS BLANK OCEANIC AT HARBOUR STATION
Robert Mayer’s Second Shutout Of The Season Gives Saint John a 1-0 Win Over Rimouski
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sunday, October 21, 2007
SAINT JOHN, NB --- Goals were an incredibly scarce resource at Harbour Station on Sunday afternoon, as an epic goaltending duel took place between rookie Sea Dogs net minder Robert Mayer and his counterpart, Tommy Perreault of the visiting Rimouski Oceanic.
A second period tally off the stick of Scott Howes proved to be all the offensive support Mayer would need on Sunday, as the 18-year old stopped all 24 shots fired upon him to earn his second shutout of the season and his career.
Mayer was quick to share credit for the victory with his team mates in his post-game comments.
“This win was definitely a team effort,” said Mayer following the match. “Our defensemen did an excellent job of clearing our zone and blocking shots in front of me all game, which makes my job much easier. It’s always nice to play well in front of our home fans, and we’re pleased to have earned two big points this afternoon at Harbour Station.”
Perreault played nearly as well between the pipes for Rimouski on Sunday, making 18 saves on 19 shots as his team dropped their 13th decision of the season – the highest loss total in the QMJHL.
After the opening dozen minutes produced an incredibly modest total of four shots on goal between the two opposing squads, Saint John went on the power play after Rimouski’s Kevin Dupont was called for interference after impeding the progress of a puck-less Francois Gauthier near the Sea Dogs bench. Payton Liske registered the lone scoring opportunity for the Sea Dogs during their second of seven man-up advantages, getting off a hard snap shot from ten feet out that Perreault stopped with an impressive shoulder save. The Sea Dogs registered a few more shots on goal late in the opening frame, but Perreault was able to turn each aside, sending Sunday’s match into the first intermission with the score tied 0-0.
Saint John was awarded three power play opportunities in the opening 5:05 of the second period. They were denied on their first two attempts by the Oceanic PK unit, but they finally managed to break through on the third, with Scott Howes banging a loose puck past a sprawling Perreault to give the home team a 1-0 lead at the 6:38 mark of the middle frame.
Michael Kirkpatrick nearly doubled Saint John’s lead with 9:41 remaining in the second, getting off a hard shot from close range that Perrealt managed to stop with a spectacular blocker save to keep his team within immediate striking distance of the Sea Dogs.
The Sea Dogs continued to apply heavy offensive pressure in Rimouski’s zone for the duration of the second, but were unable to add to their goal total as the match reached the forty minute mark with the score remaining 1-0.
Robert Mayer played exceptionally well for Saint John in the middle frame, turning aside all nine shots he faced and anchoring a successful 3-on-5 penalty kill late in the period.
Mayer continued his strong play into the third period, continuing to frustrate Rimouski’s forwards through a combination of stellar positioning and impressive reactionary technique.
The Oceanic were ultimately unable to beat the talented European despite their best efforts, and the visitors’ 12 third period shots merely added to Mayer’s save total as the final whistle sounded with the scoreboard reading SEA DOGS 1 – OCEANIC 0.
Mayer and Perreault were named the game’s first and second stars, with Sea Dogs defenseman Pascal Amyot earning third star honours after putting forth a strong effort throughout Sunday’s contest, blocking several shots and consistently keeping Rimouski’s forwards at a safe distance from the Saint John net.
The Sea Dogs next hit the ice on Wednesday, October 24, for a road contest versus the Lewiston MAINEiacs. Saint John next plays at Harbour Station on Saturday, October 27, when they face the St. John’s Fog Devils in a 7:00pm contest.
