thanks for commenting anyway. ;D maybe what i originally said was drastic and typed in anger but it does make sense to play him a little less then we have been to give other guys a kick at the can on the PP or on the 1st line. Knotek's the captain, one of the hardest workers on the team, and really the only guy who can create any type of offence with skill alone. Benching him, or reducing his minutes because he wasn't willing to go to Drummondville (or where ever it was) doesn't send a good message to the players on the team that you're trying to develop. If Knotek was just traded away, and didn't report, and Halifax had to compensate the team that he didn't report to, the Mooseheads wouldn't have had anything to show for it. At least this way, they still have Knotek for the last 2 months. Do you not think he's been positive in the development of Grant and Randall? Two guys that were projected as career 3rd liners. It's not as simple as saying "cut his icetime so a younger guy gets to play more". Something like that might benefit one, but hurt multiple others. Here's a guy that could have (maybe should have) stayed home and played pro after being undrafted into the NHL (twice) with the Mooseheads, and made some good money. Instead, he returns to a crappy team, without his good friend (Stransky) and is still wants to stick it out with the Mooseheads down the stretch. The guy should be commended for that, not chastised. I understand all of this, but from a rebilding team standpoint, it's a big blow because you can't trade him and add a 1st rounder or blue chip prospect at least.

It definately sucks that the team can't capitalize on his value. However, I was responding to the notion that he should be benched, or have his role reduced because of that.

If a good deal was out there, that would have put him on a contending team maybe he would have went, I think we would have. But to trade him for say a 3rd round pick I am happy to having him play here.

You play the game to win, so therefore you play your best player the most minutes. Knotek isn't going to have his playing time cut back. if they play to win, maybe they should have made some deals to improve this season then. in the Q, you play to win every 3 years. of course you try to win every game with the hand you've been dealt but at some point you have to think of the future as well and he's not a part of it. i would suppose now that he's off the table, some of his linemates may be traded, allowing younger guys to play with him. i'm not a fan of no trade clauses. sure it'll be great to watch him play on a losing team for 4 or 5 more games but it'll really be crappy to watch him rack up points with someone else next season with us left with nothing to show for it.

Perfect Murph, just perfect post. We all understand it is a rebuilding team but as someone who does not miss too many games, I enjoy watching Thomas play. He makes players around him play better and I think he will lead this team to the playoffs. He has been a great Moosehead and as there is no deal to blow us (him) away......... Is good we get to see him for a few more months. I second that, good post

I'm sure they could have gotten AT LEAST a 1st(or equivalent young player) for him and probably a 3rd or 4th or B prospect. Given your current situation after the Marchand trade and Patenaude draft pick trading era, you could definitely use a couple more top 5 picks.

What if he didnt want to go to PEI (assuming they were interested)... I dont know if there was a whole lot of teams out there willing to move a 1st rounder for him. Moncton could have been one but with Hrivik playing pretty well and then using assets on Deschamps and Bourque, they probably werent asking.

This should be the end of the 'No-trade' clauses in Mooseland...I hope.

Really would we get a fair value for him at this time.."NOWAY" It would be better to add some scorers with him such as they are trying to do with those players from training camp maybe they are going to change up some of the nineteen year old checkers..

Even if it was only a 1st rounder, that would be a big piece of your rebuild. You have pretty good "quantity" in terms of young players, now you need "quality" as in some difference makers in order to contend in 2-3 years.

If you can't trade Knotek I would trade Grant though as he could be a second liner/2nd PP unit on a mid pack to contending team. If Russell could get a second rounder then that would be a deal I'd make. Or package him with Amyot for a second and third/fourth rounder.

if no one has offered us "fair value" for him, obviously we think he's better than he actually is.

But he isnt going to go to a remote Q city I'm sure, and on top of that, there wouldnt be many buyers anyway. It was obvious before this trading started that his market value was limited due to his NTC and euro status.

I think your going to hear Quebec to come calling. A lot of guys have been traded and there's not that many players left out there. They've been quiet and yet to pull off any trades.
