Did you watch last year at all? He played quite a bit with Drouin last year. Last time I checked he always got the top pairing against him. So that agreement is just weak. And like I said before I think Cam was trying to get more for him but when you wait till the draft it self players drop and teams rather grab players that drop into the lap then trade the pick for players. It happens all the time in any and every draft( besides mlb, they don't trade picks for players often).
Yes. I watched last year.
If you read my post I said that Ryan isn't usually the guy who caries the play, which is still true.
He played most of last year with Ehlers and Andrews. When he's playing with those two he hardly ever gets the puck unless its to cycle it or throw it toward the net. And on the occasions where he played with Drouin he touched the puck even less.
My point is that Andrew Ryan isn't a playmaker, he's an opportunistic power-forward type, he has enough speed to keep up with elite players and has good enough hands to put the puck in the net. The downside being he needs guys to play with to make him effective.
And at least you do realize that Cam was probably talking about moving Ryan for quite some time. It's highly possible that he never got a better offer for a number of factors, one being the one I mentioned earlier combined with being overshadowed by other players on this team, and the second factor being that teams knew Cam had to move 2 overagers, and that they could get him to lower his price if they waited him out. Russel was at an unfortunate disadvantage.
Sly knows his team isn't going to compete for a division title or anything this season, and he was fine not getting Ryan and going with a cheaper option if he needed to. He has all the time in the world to wait Russel out and drive the price down, where as Russel had a guy he wanted and his hand was forced when he thought he may not be there any longer.
