Toronto has been on quite a tear since the game where Ottawa came back on them, much better defensively than early on.

Leafs have been the class of the North so far. Wouldn’t it be ironic if after 50 plus years of “plan the parade” jokes at their expense this would be the year they finally win the Cup, but can’t have a parade due to Covid restrictions?

For most people, Toronto's season will be a success or failure based on how they do in the playoffs. If they lose out in round 1, no amount of regular season wins will be a success for most fans/pundits.

We're here. Quietly enjoying the hell out of dominating this Canadian division.
Success will be determined when this season ends. No point in getting into the scenarios. Losing in round 1 or 2 would qualify as a bad season...depending on how they went down.
Depth is looking great at the moment as any time someone goes down Keefe re-tools and others step up or the system bails them out.
How Thornton is surviving on the top line is mind blowing. Everyone penciled him in for depth minutes thinking he'd never compete beyond 4th line and 2nd PP but there he is cycling with Marner and Matthews and playing very solid defensively. And the people he's playing with just love having him along for the ride.
The Engvall/Hyman duo has been dynamite defensively.
Brodie is what Rielly has really never had in a partner.
And no matter what goaltender we seem to roll out all have kept us in games and there has been almost no deflating goals at bad times.
Sucks we don't get to see the top teams compete against each other until the playoffs. But its better then having no hockey to watch thats for sure.

13-1. 2 games without Matthews. 3 different goalies. Absolute gem of a 3rd line playing lights out aggressive 2 way hockey.
Life is good.
Also...if an American team did that to McDavid and the Oilers right now the hype would be off the charts. The complete ignoring of how good Toronto has played because they're in Canada while some teams in the US have NJ/NYR/Buffalo or SJ/Ana/LA in their divisions just seems like a huge double standard.

No Pleasing Some People...……. ......Kills me to say it but they do look Unbelievable . Some Experts say they need a Top 6 Forward .....I don't see it and do those guys realize that with everything going on away from the Rink and that forever and a day issue of Chemistry .....Why would you chance it ?

Some Experts say they need a Top 6 Forward .....I don't see it and do those guys realize that with everything going on away from the Rink and that forever and a day issue of Chemistry .....Why would you chance it ? I think you need to plan for inevitable injuries. Tavares/Nylander haven't been great (been very good...but not great) 5 on 5 with a bit of a rotation on who their other winger is. Was Mikheyev early and been Kerfoot lately which has more allowed the 3rd line to really create some chemistry. I think it's easy to view Kerfoot as someone who isn't cemented in a role and if you moved him for say a Forsberg type you see a lot more explosion out of that 2nd line. Of all players on the team like now Kerfoot is the one not playing great in his role and with line 3 looking good his role could be as a 4th liner once Simmonds returns. Other side of that is with everyone healthy Simmonds is in the top 9 and Kerfoot might be the one pushed down and you'd rather spend that money on another D. Even though Rielly/Brodie and Muzzin/Holl have shown no reason to bump anyone and Dermott/Bogosian/Lehtonen have all played well on the 3rd pair and there are kids like Sandin knocking on the door. So if you had $3mil to upgrade somewhere I can see the logic that the top 6 2nd line winger brings more of an impact and disrupts chemistry the least. Or you use the money to your full advantage and pick up guys on the cheap like say a Bobby Ryan and a Bogosian type who just add more depth overall. I think the top 6 upgrade offers the most potential for a big impact. But there could be just as much value in replicating what Tampa did last year and add cheaper role players.

If you had of told me that in 3 games against McDavid and Draisaitl that they would be held pointless and the Leafs would only allow 1 goal over the 3 game series, I never would have believed it. I wouldn’t have been surprised if we won a couple of games 6-4 or 5-3 but not 4-0, 3-0 and 6-1, by three different goalies.
What a difference maker Brodie has been so far this season for the defensive depth.
Playoffs are all that matters but it’s a nice treat to finally watch the Leafs win games while looking like a strong defensive team. Everyone’s really picking up their assignments on the ice nicely.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see a loss tonight to Vancouver coming off the end of the road trip playing back to back but I hope the team continues to do the right things on the ice.
