lets be honest here it costs them one very good pick if they don't qualify him a 3rd round pick is nothing and can be recouped easily they also have financial flexibility going forward as Neideretter and Trochek come off the books after next year of course a big part of the gamble is fucking Montreal over but i think they will be fine if they take him on...... apparently they legitimately tried to trade for him before doing the offer sheet IMO it's 100% owner wanting revenge, just look at the $20 signing bonus, and 0% a hockey move.

I'd say after this season they just sign JKK to like 6yrs x 5mil or a close/fair aav and it never gets near arbitration.

Agree - I think if Carolina gets Kotkaniemi, the most likely scenario is that they extend him long term once they can do so ... and unless he has a massive breakout, the AAV will be well below the QO amount ...

At the end of the day, JKK and his agent would be dumb to sign long term for a lot less than the QO unless he really has a bad year, even at that he would be better off as a UFA with Car declining to make a QO.

Dvorak at 4.45M for 4 years makes a lot more sense than JKK for 6M x 4 years, plus he is 25, not like you're adding a guy on his way down. I just wonder if the cost would only be a 1st ad a 3rd(or comparable). I heard a rumor Hertl wanted out of SJ after Wilson botched the Kane situation. Eichel is another obvious target plus Strome in NY has been rumored on the block for a year. I think the best strategy, all things being equal(assuming some of those guys are available for less than your left arm and left nut), I would let JKK walk and trade for a C then sign one of Bozak or Zajac. That would slot Evans and Poehling on the 4th line. Hopefully one or both take a step forward this year and can be a good #3 next year. With Suzuki likely costing 6.75-8M long term after this year, you don't want to be paying your #2 and 3C 11M...unless you are talking Eichel in which case, you're getting a star and possible superstar.

While Molson's Bum Boy is deciding what to do with the Kotkinienemi Offer Sheet ....his 1st Round Draft Picks has been suspended indefinitely from the OHL ....that should do wonders for his developement .....what a Moron Bergevin is , every bit of logic said stay away from drafting this Kid but he did it with his very first pick and has been criticized ever since . That's when you know your in tight with your Boss ....when you make a ton of Mistakes but The Owner says or does nothing . www.tsn.ca/ohl-suspends-montreal-first-round-pick-logan-mailloux-indefinitely-1.1688988

I think is quite similar to Danault, better finsher, maybe not as good defensively. I expect them to sign a veteran C like Bozak or Zajac to replace JKK. Eventually Poehling or Evans should be #3C but this would provide insulation for them.
