Not everybody likes the Kampf signing I wouldn’t like it either. I have a tough time justifying paying 3rd/4th line players term with real $ attached to them. Especially one who’s proven he’s just a defensive minded player. I feel like you can get that same player cheaper and for less term in UFA. The same way they acquired Kampf in the first place.

Usually these guys get cheap 1 year deals(1-1.5M) with the cap being tight, then get these type of deals in years the cap bumps up more.

Leafs go off the board at 28..hope he turns into something good, because the highest others had him ranked were 34th and most had him in the 60-80 range.

I have no issue with $2.4 for a 3C who is a good penalty killer as a short term AAV. The 4 years, bonuses, and trade protection are all borderline insane for someone who provides zero offense.

Look how often Q teams talk about a midget pick having a surprising playoff and jump up the draft board. The style this kid plays is badly needed. Most who seen him play in the OHL playoffs said he was like an energizer bunny out there causing chaos....the Leafs really need more of that through the organization. So on style alone I love the pick. Now lets see what he becomes in the OHL at 18 and 19 where it sounds like he has the potential to be a game changer at that level with some more experience.

They re-signed Holmberg who can fill the same role for $800K for 2 years. The 4 year term is crazy here.

I seen Craig Button had him at #34.

You cant acquire hard to play against players once they're developed. So you need to take chance that the pest in junior can keep developing in the NHL. Brad Marchand's don't become available via trade in their prime. So if this is an attempt to try finding someone who plays that way I like the pick. I've already seen a Brayden Point comparison as well. Another type of player who can't just add ahead of a playoff run.

I wonder if Nylander gets moved? They appear to be far apart in $$$ while Matthews looks likely to be extended. Could a deal for Hellebuck or Lindholm make sense?

Could a deal for Hellebuck or Lindholm make sense? was thinking this too..so I'm wondering what Nylander is asking, I have a weird feeling its in the 9.5m-10m range considering what Dubois and Meier just got and he arguably had a better season then both. I think the Leafs would be closer to the 8.5M range. Gonna be tough. If he's in fact traded I'm sure there's lots of viable partners out there. If we can see a trade that's similar to the Dubois one where we bring in multiple NHL ready guys it could work out but still a big question mark.

Given the flat cap, getting NHL talent back is an easier trade than trying to move him for picks/prospects as a lot of teams have no cap room or very little.
